Since Discern Realities has moved to a bi-weekly schedule for the Fall, I wanted to post a reminder about the Codex Keeper contest we are presently running. All you have to do is submit something original for Dungeon World inspired by the Codex – Blood image (pictured here). It can be a magic item, a ritual, a custom move, a monster, an NPC, etc..

You can paste the text of your entries in the comments on this post, or email them to us at gauntletpodcast@gmail.com.

The deadline is September 15th. The winner receives a $25 gift certificate to DriveThruRPG.

  1. Entry: “Worshipping the birth moon”

The sun burns with energy and growth. The moon illuminates with thought and spirit.

Although many worship the sun, some say it only birthed the plants. They say it was a thirsty, full moon which gave birth to the creatures of the world.

During a night under a full moon, spill the blood of various creatures upon a moon rock altar. Gather the pooled blood together, imagine a new creature that takes its form from these beasts, and roll +CHA. On a 10+, choose 3. On a 7-9, choose 2.

    • The creature is a form like you imagined.

    • The creature is of at least basic animal intelligence.

    • The creature is tame, and will serve you until it dies, or finds another purpose.

    • The creature is stable, and will not slowly come apart.

(and of course you can probably imagine what horrors will appear with a 6-… nothing needs to be said there).
