Codex: Paint the World in Chrome

The first issue of Codex, called Blood, is underway. Most of the art is lined-up, the actual content is nearing completion, and we’re presently trying some layouts. My hope is to release it into the world by the end of July.

I want to go ahead and get a jump on the second issue, Chrome.

Below are some notes about what I am looking for, and how you can submit things.

A starter for a Monsterhearts campaign set in an American high school in either the 1950’s or the mid-1980’s

I will probably work on this part myself, but I’m open to collaborating with someone on it. Just message me and we can talk.

Five to seven elements for Adventures on Dungeon Planet

This will likely be a combination of monsters, items, and custom moves. Feel free to send submissions to gauntletpodcast@gmail.com. By submitting something, you agree to let us use it in Codex.

Miscellany: Three-Dozen Cosmetic Cyberware Enhancements

Like the Blood miscellany, submissions must be one sentence (or two to three very short sentences), and should be highly evocative and system neutral. I will make a post about this at a later date, and submissions will be taken in the comments for that post.

Art

The art in Blood is black & white, with splashes of red. I’d like to maintain the ‘black & white plus one color’ aesthetic for Chrome. I’m thinking neon pink. I may reach out to some of the ‘Blood’ artists, but I’ll also be looking at work from other people (especially if they can do sci-fi).

  1. Jason Cordova, I was in high school in the mid-1980s, and I’d be happy to share whatever information or personal perspective that may help. Let me know.

  3. I thought about doing a cyberpunk starter instead of a MH starter, but it’s not really my forte. Fred Bednarski I’m down if you have a good idea.

  5. I don’t think there’s a better window into the early 80’s high school experience than Freaks & Geeks. As a personal anecdote, my High School actually had an outdoor “smoking lounge” area that I had to pass through to get to my classes. It was definitely not a nerd-friendly area.

  7. Hey Jason Cordova, now after you have mentioned the sprawl on Gauntlent I feel more inclined to write a piece for the Chrome issue. I am thinking of using the Sprawl for it. What kind of article would you like? a job/dungeon started, maybe a location for a corporation with some custom moves? I am up for anything cyberpunk.

  9. Fred Bednarski I think our format is going to be Campaign Starters. I can send you a peek of the one I’ve done for the test issue so you can get an idea of what I’m talking about. Do you mind PM’ing me your email address?
