Last week was really cool for me in terms of gaming.

Last week was really cool for me in terms of gaming. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the games I played in, and I’m really excited to see where they go. Also, I got to play with a bunch of new people last week, which was exciting.

The Sprawl was quite interesting. Character and world creation dominated most of the session, but I’m digging where things are going. I’m not even much of a cyberpunk guy, but I’m having fun getting up-to-speed on the tropes.

Battlestar World was a playtest, still in very early stages, but I’m excited to see where it goes. We were able to tell a sort-of ‘alternate universe’ Galactica story, which was neat.

Our ongoing Monsterhearts game is stuck in my head. I’m so freaking pleased with how that one is going, I can barely stand it.The players are doing a terrific job with the tone. In MH, I love a tone that spikes between campy/funny and utterly bleak (with a bit of wink-wink perversion sprinkled throughout), and these guys are knocking it out of the park.

Finally, I got to try Sagas of the Icelanders for the first time! Great game! I should have more to say about that one after our second session, but for now, our story feels very immediate and very human. It has an intimacy you don’t often get in PbtA games.

Thanks to everyone who played with me last week: Chris Wiegand Tim B Timothy Bennett Aniket Schneider Christopher Meid David LaFreniere steven watkins Jørund Kambestad Lie Alex Chalk J.D. Lichauco Aleksandra Sontowska Johannes Oppermann and YG Mitchell.

  1. Thanks for running Battlestar World for us, Jason Cordova. I had a blast playing a surfer dude hotshot in his Shroom Raptor, and look forward to more games! More Cylons! More steel pipe shot glasses!

  3. Thank you for running the Monsterhearts Game! It is definitely a blast! I’m so glad I got in to play with you guys

  5. Thanks Jason Cordova! Sagas of the Icelanders was wonderful, the women steering the game like I’ve seldom seen before, especially our Seidhkona. Thanks, Aleksandra Sontowska for playing a shy but strong midwife-runecaster. Playing the lone wolf wanderer with a dark secret was very satisfying. I’m on the waitlist for next session – hope I’ll be able to get in!

  7. Christopher Meid The problem is I work 6 days a week with only Sunday’s off, where I’m playing in a Blades game on Once Upon a Game and doing copy editing afterward usually!

We launched the KS right before my work entered the busy season, potentially I could run something on a Sunday evening or something though. Or during the week in the daytime day, as I work evenings usually. But most people don’t fit this restrictive schedule. We playtested pretty extensively though. I ran it 3-4 times a week for almost a year solid.

Would love to playtest the 3 newest playbooks a bit more though… I miss playing/running it already.

  9. Christopher Meid hmm. That’s an idea! It’s pretty compelling hearing people’s feedback when you’re not involved in the game as the designer though. From my experience people give completely different feedback if they know you’re involved in the playtest or not. It is a good idea though. It may be do-able to play for a few hours in the morning hours before work, or something like that.
