Last night, we played 44: A Game of Automatic Fear. It started noir, but quickly escalated into an action movie somehow. While I thought the dice mechanics were a bit finicky, everyone had fun and it was a great time! Thanks to Jeffrey Steinwachs, Greg Lanum, and Simon Hunt for coming out.

Oh man, I was just thinking about giving this a run. Any tips?

Love this game, it’s a very tight design: so much so that, on at least one occasion, one small miscalculation in the first act created the most inept & ineffectual conspiracy ever. Keep an eye on those numbers when you’re GMing this and play tactically!

Matt Stuart, just make sure you read through the rules a couple times. Like James Mullen said, it’s easy to ruin the conspiracy’s efficiency by not playing tactically. That’s what I did. But also, don’t sweat it to much, because everyone had fun, regardless.

Spot on with that observation Jacob Densford: it’s still a great game even when the conspiracy is less than fully effectual.

My favorite thing about this game is that the story is about a small group of people struggling against the conspiracy, but you get to occasionally zoom out and see the global impact of the conspiracy. It’s a neat trick, and it makes it seem very cinematic.
