  1. Daniel Lewis not like this… not like this…    Seriously though thanks for making it happen for so long! It’s grown big and strong and now you have to let it leave the nest.

  3. Gutted to hear you’re leaving Daniel Lewis It felt like I just found out my parents are getting a divorce and that I’m going to live with Mum and two Step-Dads.

  5. Oh, man. Dan loses categorically at giving me life this week 🙁   Hope things go well for you. RL stuff always gets in the way of the important stuff, like gaming…

OTOH, Glad that Steve is onboard full time.

And wow, Pathfinder levels of hate on Burning Wheel this week! 😉

Probably a  bad time to mention that I started a BW ongoing game a week ago…  😀

  7. Eloy Cintron The Burning Wheel bit is considerably edited down, too. The funny thing about Burning Wheel is that it’s one of my favorite games! I have a ton of love for it. I just…don’t want to play it ever again. It’s complicated.

  9. Jason Cordova Richard Rogers  I demand satisfaction for Burning Wheel, sir! 😛    Get Judd Karlman to Game Advocate for it!   😀

  11. Isa Wills  I get the hate… it is a daunting system, with lots of moving parts, but at its core, there is a powerful tool (Beliefs), driving it like nothing else I’ve seen. The base mechanic isn’t complicated either. It’s the rest of the moving parts that get to people 🙂

  13. Burning Wheel is perfectly manageable so long as you stick to the basic mechanic, maybe adding Bloody Vs. for combat, and occasionally doing one of the subsystems for a big set piece. But if that’s what I’m resigning myself to, I’d rather just play PbtA. And that’s not a knock on BW. I don’t think there would be Apocalypse World without BW.

Burning Wheel has an aspirational quality I love. If you can hang in there for 10 or 20 sessions, the game’s nuances really come to life. I’ve done about 40 sessions. I had a great time; my players were deeply satisfied with the story; but none of us ever wanted to do it again. It’s an exhausting game. It demands too much of both the players and the GM.

  15. Hey everybody!  Thanks for the kind words both this week and over the last year.  It really means a lot.  That was at the top of my list for things I wanted to say on the show, but I got distracted by weird analogies involving midwives and stuff (as so often happens).  I’m sad to leave, but I’m also excited to see what the show is going to look like with Steve Mains in the third chair.  I have no doubt that it’s going to be awesome.

  17. Sorry to see you go Dan, best of luck! On a more positive note though, great topic this week, guys! Especially as I’m currently considering a couple of games as possible one-shots for GUK that are probably more intended for extended play.

  19. Daniel FowlerYou are right about bards. That playbook is a real mess, honestly. Definitely my least favorite from the core set. I have every confidence Jørund Kambestad Lie will redeem it in Vault of the Purple Mane, though.
