Stupid podcast idea/suggestion #534

(Stolen from Sage Latorra and Adam Blinkinsop’s Another Question podcast and from Rich’s Black Sails AW): Take a well known geek media thing (a novel, TV series, movie, etc) and discuss which system you’d use and how you would adapt that to an RPG game/campaign.

This idea totally not motivated by me watching/reading the Expanse and trying to figure out which system to use… 😛

  1. Dunno! Still thinking about it.. It’s hard sci-fi, but almost retro. No transhumanism. Setting wise: Similar to Eclipse Phase, but you have to strip away all the internet/post-scarcity/implants, etc. It actually resembles most the setting of the Buck Rogers XXVc TSR game, which has the hard sci-fi, but no transhumanism.

Mechanics? Dunno… Maybe Traveller? Star Frontiers? I don’t have Uncharted Worlds, so, maybe?

    Hence my post 🙂

  3. Not to detract from the OP, but how do I watch the Expanse?! I tried on Syfy.com and it says I have to have a cable subscription, and $3/ep on Amazon is a bit much.

  5. I have the same issue… I mostly go with Netflix and Amazon Prime, but get some stuff on iTunes. Or buy the Blu Rays if it’s the HBO super-primo stuff, like Game of Thrones.

EDIT: and it’s still cheaper than paying for cable subscription…

  7. Stars without Number would be my bet for The Expanse.  They got a faction system for mars and earth fighting and they got wonderful ship navigation table for when that one thing breaks and everything goes to shit.  just don’t allow psionics.
