Don’t give-in to the sadness, Patréon!
Take a break from Black Friday and enjoy this week’s episode of The Gauntlet Podcast. Kristen D joins us for a very fun Episode 34. I’m really happy about this one, because I think we turned a corner in terms of re-capturing the group chemistry that made the old FtF recordings of the podcast so special. We’re getting better and better at online recording, and that delights me.
Also, the conversation is really good (be sure to stick around for the stinger)!
Games we discuss include:
Andrew Medeiros and Mark Diaz Truman’s Urban Shadows
Josh Roby’s Renegade Jennys & Boilerplate Jacks
Uncharted Worlds
John Harper’s Lasers & Feelings
Dungeon World
Apocalypse World PbP

Kristen D i definitely think other players failures can hurt other players. That being said I felt bad about killing your character. I have been trying to be more punishing as a DM and the healer described his actions as shooting magic arrows at you. He failed, then rolled high on damage, then you failed the last breath. That’s just how it turned out. Hope you still had fun. And feel free to pitch me alternatives.

No Worries Daniel Fowler , as I said…I had been rolling spectacularly bad :P. I just remarked on it because it was a singular experience; in all of our many Dungeon World games I had never seen that happen so I thought it was funny and worth mentioning 🙂

I Just listened to this episode and have a couple questions…
Is there a thread in the Gauntlet community where it is best to post about GM techniques?
Have you ever seen a really good list of great questions to ask the players? You mentioned the questions from Dread. Are there any other good sources? I would love to see what other members of the community are using as their favorites.

Logan Howard You know, I really think it’s going to depend a lot on the game that is being played, and what kind of story the GM wants to steer the players toward. That said, there could be a lot of value in coming-up with some general questions that could be applicable to any setting (especially environmental questions or basic relationship-forming questions). I don’t have anything like that, but the Dread book is definitely a great place to start.

Jason Cordova I found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/rpg/comments/41fky8/leading_questions_for_pc_specific_quests/
Some of these seem really good.
