Living Games

Have you heard about Living Games? Support it or buy your ticket through the Kickstarter right now. It’s a gaming conference in Austin, Texas, May 2016 that builds off of the kick-ass work Shoshana Kessock did to bring together leading minds, designers and players of live games in North America and beyond. To bring thought and expertise together, to help us all learn from one another and make more vibrant, inclusive and healthy games & communities.

Living Games is focused on larp in all its modalities, but is open to folks who love rpgs of all stripes, and will include discussion and games where larp & tabletop overlap. There is so  much to learn from one another. We’ve invited Jason Morningstar, one of our keynote speakers to talk on that very thing.

I’m super excited about this event. I am going, bought my ticket as soon as I could, and am helping with programming and outreach. There is a powerhouse crew lead by Sarah Lynne Bowman from many communities working on this. It’s a fantastic chance to bring together an amazing number of traditions. From established Mind’s Eye Theatre groups, to freeform larp like Golden Cobra, to boffer communities like Austin’s own Amtgard. This is going to be spectacular.

Over the next couple weeks, as the Kickstarter campaign hits the home stretch, I’ll post about Living Games and the speakers, programming, and what I hope to see come out of it.

  1. Ooh, interesting. Seems very larp-focused, which isn’t really my jam, but more Austin cons is a good thing.

I definitely have a couple friends who need to know about this if they don’t already.
