Every now and then, a game comes out of nowhere (like Cheat Your Own Adventure) and you’re really taken aback by how good it is.Andrew Peregrine’s Dance of the Damned is one such game. It’s kind of a mix of RPG plus competitive card game. It has a lot of fast, back and forth narration that reminds you of, well, a dance. The setting is terrific, too: all the lords and nobles are hiding inside a castle, drinking and fucking themselves stupid, while the poors outside die of the plague. The point of the game is to see if your character will succumb to the darkness and ennui, or will they leave the castle filled with hope about the future.

Lots of fun. Highly recommended. I suspect we’ll talk about it on the podcast episode that lands May 8th.

Thanks to everyone who came out: Jorge Salazar Daniel Lewis Ferrell Riley and Scott Owen.

  1. Ah, so “Masque of the Red Death” the RPG. Sounds awesome. I love this description: “all the lords and nobles are hiding inside a castle, drinking and fucking themselves stupid, while the poors outside die of the plague.”
