This tournament on RPG Geek has been going on for awhile and it is oddly compelling. The Final Eight are:

Monster of the Week v. Mouse Guard

Apocalypse World v. Dungeon World (this one is super close!)

Lady Blackbird v. Trail of Cthulhu

Fiasco v. Fate

I think we should pull together as a community to help put Dungeon World on top.

  1. I’m not going to defend Paranoia, but Eclipse Phase seems pretty great.  It also has the world’s best designed .pdf, so that’s something.

  3. I think it’s pretty appropriate that Lady Blackbird ended up matched up against Trail; nothing will make you appreciate LB more than prepping to run a game of ToC.

  5. I have been wanting to try Fate Core, too.  One day I will definitely run Court/Ship.  French aristocracy + alien invasion?  Yes, please!

  7. I’m guessing it’ll be Dungeon World.  It does the best job at ripping off D&D and making it better.  And really, all that a ton of people in this hobby wanna do is be an elf, stab orcs, and level up.

Also:  Dogs in the Vineyard over Monsterhearts?  The fuck?

Also also:  Someone stacked the deck against Evil Hat in a way they didn’t against PbtA games.  Fate eliminated both Dresden Files and Don’t Rest Your Head, while it would have been possible to have at least 4 out of the final 8 be PbtA games.

  9. Oh man.  I just looked at the results.  This would be less depressing if people were just like:  PATHFINDER’S THE BEST, WOOOOOOO!  And it narrowly beat out Shadowrun and Vampire or something.  Because at least then I wouldn’t care.
