Someone quipped last night, in a conversation over some drinks, that the OSR movement is the “Tea Party of role playing games” (not me, btw, though I did find it amusing).

Any thoughts?

  1. Ouch. Is all I have to say about the comment. However, I don’t understand why people just do not play the originals. I just got B\X with caves of Chaos and Isle of Dread for less than $20 on eBay, including shipping. And I may be quibbling here but for me it is nostalgia not OSR.

  3. parrish warren The comment was made as a sort of good-natured jest (the way you might tease a sibling). There was plenty to go around last night, such as my observation that the story game community sometimes produces work that is eye-rollingly precious.

Doyle Tavener It was a really great session of Lacuna. And a nice reminder that good GM’ing still has a role to play (so to speak) in our hobby.

  5. parrish warren, I actually don’t play much using the original sets. My FtF game is very much a modded OD&D, via S&W, and I play a lot of DCC RPG on line, as well as LotFP.

    Yes, I love acronyms.

Once every two weeks I do play AD&D, 1st edition. Which I also enjoy. Old-school play always implies a DIY approach, ala Zak S.
