In Dungeon World, a gelatinous cube has more HP than a dragon (20 vs 16). There are, in fact, single orcs who have more HP than a dragon. Some people casually peruse the book, notice this peculiarity, and immediately start forming negative opinions about Dungeon World. You see it all over the place in forums where the game is being discussed.

Oh well…so much for reading the text in full.

  1. Greg Feeney In DW, you always go with what rings true in the fiction. So, for a dragon, the question is not “How many HP does it have?” but rather “Can I even hit the dragon in the first place?” Consider some elements of dragons: scales that are unlikely to be pierced by a mundane weapon; the ability to bathe the whole area in a curtain of flame; a bite that does more than just “X HP,” but also rends limbs; a body so immense, finding something vital to hit is nearly impossible; and so forth.

This does a much better job of illustrating what I’m talking about: http://www.latorra.org/2012/05/15/a-16-hp-dragon/

  3. Sounds pretty cool. Been wanting to pick up the book but the site that normally has it is down. For some reason I can never get rules I read off PDFs to stick in my head.

EDIT: Never mind, it is back up!
