Mini-Con Thoughts

Jason Cordova, last night during the Dragon Age one-shot, you mentioned the Gauntlet having it’s own mini-con (RPG Gauntlet on Demand) at either a local game store or other suitable venue, I like the ideal of that and would like to feedback and thoughts (and interest level) from the members about this.

  1. I’ll go ahead and chime-in with what I had in mind. At Gen Con, the big indie-game sub-event is Games on Demand. From that, a few “On-Demand” mini-cons have sprung up here and there (The Jank Cast, for example, does a regular thing called Jank On Demand).

I would like to do the Gauntlet On Demand. It wouldn’t have to just be indie/story games, but I would like that to be the focus. OSR games would be good, too. The only games I would probably rule out are PFRPG and DnD. Not because I have anything against those games or the people who play them, but rather I would like to highlight games that don’t get as much attention.

  3. Mark Chance had the terrific idea of a community center. I envision about 4-5 tables with sessions scheduled throughout a single day (maybe a Saturday). Everyone chips in 5 bucks, which pays for food and any other costs.

  5. Sounds good to me. My ideas for venues, to repeat myself from last night:

    1. A community center, such as the Trini Mendenhall Sosa Community Center on Wirt Road.

    2. St. Arnold’s Brewery.

  7. suggestion. ..there is a library near my place and it might be ideal for our needs. As for days how about Wednesday and Thursday. Not sure if those are good days but it might work.

  9. Yeah, I liked the brewery idea, too, but I agree a Saturday would not be ideal for that venue. A game store or community center would work well in terms of being able to eat and drink. Kerry Harrison Who do we know at the various game stores around here?

  11. I do not have any particular venue recommendations, but I just wanted to say I’d definitely be interested in this and willing to run or play just about anything (I have an extensive library of indie games that have only been read).

  13. I’ll say I like the sound of this.  I also like the idea of shying away from the more “Omnipresent” games like Pathfinder and D&D (at least the modern editions 3+) in favor of other games that don’t get the gamin’ love they should.  😉

Contributing $5 bucks seems more than reasonable.  Can’t even get in a movie for that price…or hell…even get a hot dog and a drink at a movie.

For me I’d personally only ever be able to make it on a weekend.

    Anyways, thats my $0.02

  15. I’d love to participate in this as a player and a GM. I’m quite in love with Dogs of the Vineyard and wouldn’t mind giving it a shot as a GM. I’d love to have an opportunity to play some more of these new “hippy games”. 😀

It’s an excellent idea. May I suggest China Ko’s as a location? My wife does monthly business meetings there occasionally and they only ask every eats at the buffet. Just an idea.

Maybe put some flyers in our LGS to recruit some more folks who aren’t on G+ of the facebook group?

  17. There is one in Crosby! You’re on to me! 😀

They actually have locations all around houston and some of them have very spacious private rooms. Whats great is we’d have a few to pick from. Only rhing we have to do is ask everyone to grab the buffet. 🙂

  19. There is an ok chinese buffet at my old office Yank Sing. Off 290 and 610. I believe they have a private room and I suspect they would simply want people to buy the buffet.
