  1. Hi Josh, welcome to the Gauntlet. Your best bet to get some gaming done right away is to check the Events section. We have One-Shot Fridays and Story Game Saturday/Sundays. None of those require any familiarity with the system being played and anyone can join in.

  3. Jason, it took me a a while to figure this out, but The Gauntlet is more of a gaming club that caters to people in the area that play mostly what are referred to as Indie games and Story games, correct? If that is true, you might want to add some verbiage to that effect to the description of the group.

  5. Doyle Tavener I think I disagree with your characterization of the Gauntlet. I would say roughly 1/3-1/2 of the Friday Night One-Shots are OSR-style games. The rest is divided pretty evenly between story games and more traditional RPGs.

Anyone can create an event and invite the group to it (running any system they like). Likewise, anyone can post their pictures or session reports (and they should!) It just so happens that the most active members at the moment are the ones who are into (so-called) story games. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

I resist the idea there should be some sort of division between types of gamers or systems. I take an expansive view of RPGs. All systems and all gamers have merit. This is a place to discuss them for Houstonians. If you are running games, we would love to see your session reports/photos. If you have a great idea for a game to run, you should create an event. The discussion sections cover DnD, Pathfinder, Savage Worlds and OSR games. Get to discussing!

  7. Doyle Tavener actually we cater to whatever kind of games people want to run/promote, I personally enjoy both traditional RPGs and the Indie/story games and run and play both.

I’ll admit I’m personally not a big fan of D&D3.5/4.0 or Pathfinder (I find HackMaster 5th and Castles & Crusades more like the AD&D I grew up playing), but I’m happy to promote any them anyway as I know those are the preferred systems for lots of folks.

  9. Josh Schmidt welcome to The Gauntlet.  What part of town are you looking for games in?  Also, I’m running a one-shot sci-fi game Friday night called Edge of Space, you’re more than welcome to attend.

  11. Josh Schmidt : I can squeeze in another player for my every-other Saturday Stars Without Number game. I should be at the Friday Night game tomorrow.

  13. Sorry for the late replies I did not see the notifications.  Kerry Harrison I am in the Alief area, but can travel if need be.  Don’t want to drive an hour or anything, but don’t mind having to travel for a game.

Mark Chance Sounds cool.  Never heard of the system but like I said I am willing to give anything a try at least once.  I wasn’t able to make the Friday one shot obviously due to other obligations, but I am going to try and make it out this Friday.

  15. +Josh Schmidt: Sorry for the screw up this weekend. I was out of town without reliable Internet access, and got back a day later than planned. Consequently, today’s game got called off. We should be good to go again in two weeks.
