Tragedy! The Trader Joes Beer has been taken off the shelves by the TABC. Apparently the beer was actually Trader Joes brand, and that is against the law in Texas. 🙁

This is bad news. That beer has become something of a tradition at our game nights. I guess you’ll just have to make more of that awesome cherry brandy.

Stupid law that needs to be changed. No one has a “beer monopoly” if I can go to another store and buy another brand of beer.

Exactly. The law is actually designed to guarantee and defend a beer monopoly (or at least oligopoly), not prevent it. But the big beer makers spend a lot of money on lobbyists. Allows them to spend less on ingredients.

The funny thing is that the beer is actually made by Budweiser under contract. evidence that Budweiser knows how to make good beer but chooses not to.

Budweiser makes good beer, they just don’t brand it as Budweiser, for example Shock Top.
