I decided to use the very cool Vamonos Pizza supplement from Snap Sites for the location of tonight’s Job.

A quick recap:

– haunted pizza oven

– you can travel through the oven to other pizza joints?

– an Efreet?

– let’s use that summoning table John stole from a movie set!

– and it worked

Starting February 10th, I’d like to run a series of games I’m calling Gauntlet City Limits. The idea is to play several different RPGs that are set in modern-day and loosely tie them together in the same fictional city I’m calling Gauntlet City. Because why not?

Tonally, I’m running games that are light-hearted, but I want it to feel more Ghostbusters than “zany” or “gonzo”, i.e. you’re playing people who could actually exist. Characters we can root for, rather than wait for the setup of the next gag.

Currently on the slate are games like Inspectres, Ninja Burger, and High Strung (the Rock & Rollplaying Game). If people are digging it, we’ll move on to other games like Time and Temp, Devil’s Highway, Lacuna Part 1 and Tokyo Brain Pop.

During our games as we create places inside Gauntlet City Limits, they will become canon for the city. As events happen in each game, they will impact future games (for example, if a ghost crocodile tears through the city park in a session of Inspectres, there could be a news report about it during a moment in the next Ninja Burger game!) I’m even creating a map!

To participate, you will need to create a “family”. This will be a pool of characters you’ll use for all of the PCs you play in Gauntlet City Limits. If after a few games it feels weird to have all your PCs from the same family unit, we’ll talk about cousins or figure something out. I’m considering how much detail is fun for each PC “family”, more details to follow.

If you’d like to throw your hat in the ring, comment here. I’ll get you into the Google Drive folder for the game and we’ll work out the general idea of your PC family.

I was a guest on a different show! Do you listen to PLOT? It’s one of the other best shows out there, you should.

A new episode of Play on Target: “Old Dogs, New Tricks.” Timely for the end of the year and new resolutions? Who knows! In this episode the inestimable Richard Rogers generously comes in at the last minute when we’re a co-host down. It’s a good episode and I hope you’ll take a listen.

While recording tonight’s episode with the wonderful Kristen D, I mentioned Dr Tom the Frog.

It’s a neat little talk show hosted by a talking frog. He interviews cool gamers and game makers about things they adore. It’s fun of whimsy and puns and lasts about 7 – 10 minutes per episode.

MAULPOCALYPSE

MAULPOCALYPSE

MAULPOCALYPSE

In the before times, a “shopping maul” called Rolling Acres shut down, just before the world broke. Precious little survived that breaking, but somehow, this monument to jingle did.

Why did this hulk remain standing? What community mushroomed up inside its cracked and crumbling walls? How do they eke out their day to day? What threats do they face?

Hola Gauntleteers!

I’m starting up a short run of Apocalypse World over play-by-post for the Gauntlet community. Play-by-post is an amazing way to develop characters and situations, and I’d like to share my long experience with the Gauntlet crowd, especially with one of my favorite games. We will have a bang-up time, with properly motivated players!

I’m looking for four or five interested players who can generally post at least once a day on weekdays and a couple times over the weekend. Our game will begin in November, and we’ll conclude in February 2016.

If you’re interested in running through this Gauntlet, and “Playing to find out,”  let me know in the comments below. Looking for the right mix of folks, so we might have to communicate one-on-one before the game’s “full.”

Oh, and there’s one more thing. I’m going to host regular Hangouts on Air where we’ll chat about the events in the game. It will serve a couple purposes:

–  Give everyone a chance to keep up on the game in case they’re interested.

– Also, it will let us gab about interesting characters and moments. If you’d like to be involved every once in awhile, cool! I’ll work out a schedule with you. If not, no problem, but we’ll probably be talking about your character. (Not you, by name… but I am a fan of your characters, remember?)
