New Patreon Goal – OSR Podcast Project
New Patreon Goal – OSR Podcast Project
Hi everyone! We hit our most recent Patreon goal and so we’ve started the planning for GauntletCon, an online gaming convention. We’re going to have more to announce on that very soon. In the meantime, I wanted to let you know about our next Patreon goal…
Tom McGrenery and I have started the pre-production phase of a brand-new discussion podcast focused on classic and OSR modules and setting books. Once we hit $1400, we’ll be able to cover regular production costs and will release the first episode immediately.
This project is going to be really fun; it’s something I have wanted to work on for a long time, and Tom and I have a really great rapport (you can hear us playing Monster of the Week in our Comic Strip AP feed). It’s still early days, but here are some notes about where we’re going with the project:
-Each episode will focus on a single module or setting book (we already know which module the first episode is about, but we’re keeping that a secret for now).
-Our overall approach is to be very comprehensive, almost holistic, in how we discuss the topic for each episode. The goal, as in all things “Gauntlet,” is to help you get these modules and setting books to the table, and so we hope to not only do what is essentially a review of the book in question, but also discuss different techniques and approaches for making sure you are getting the most out of it in play.
Segment Breakdown (tentative)
-Each episode will likely start with an overview of the module or setting book. We’ll discuss what we liked, what we didn’t like, the book’s major themes, etc..
-The next segment will be a discussion about how to re-contextualize or adapt the module for a specific playstyle or specific set of circumstances (for example: “How to run Death Frost Doom as a one-shot” or “How to turn Scenic Dunnsmouth into a series of Fronts for Dungeon World” or “How to update Keep on the Borderlands so it feels fresh and exciting”).
-The final segment will be about films, books, and other media references we believe best represent the themes and tone of the module. The idea here is you have some resources you can check out if you want to capture how the module should feel at the table, as well as having a handy list you can point your players to.
I think this is going to be a really fun project. Just like Discern Realities and Dungeon World, your level of interest in the OSR isn’t going to determine how much you like this show. It’s going to be a show about technique presented through a very particular lens. I promise you will love it.
Thanks to everyone who is helping us hit these Patreon goals. We are excited to bring you more Gauntlet awesomeness!
