The new Bundle of Holding is incredible. It’s a Lamentations bundle that includes classics like Carcosa and Death Frost Doom, but also new things like Veins of the Earth (!!!) and Towers Two. Plus, it looks like you get entered to win a set of physical books when you purchase the bundle. Check it out!

Tom McGrenery (my charming co-host on Fear of a Black Dragon) has put together a free version of Malandros, his (definitely, officially not PbtA) game about Rio de Janeiro at the end of the 19th century. It’s a great game that has been featured in Codex, and was nominated for an Indie Groundbreaker. Tom is also running it for Gauntlet Con.
My hope is to expand Gauntlet Hangouts by a significant amount next year.
My hope is to expand Gauntlet Hangouts by a significant amount next year. We’re going to make more of those precious-as-gold $7 Patreon spots available, but that means we need more game runners. Importantly, we need game runners who are confident in their ability to do a good job.
I rarely pose questions like this to the community, but I’d like to know: What would you need from us (i.e. the Gauntlet regulars) to feel confident running games online for our community?
We’ve got a few things simmering right now:
Lowell Francis is helping out individual GMs who want tips and guidance.
Kate Bullock set-up a GM Support channel on our Slack.
I have made my Hangouts videos available for the express purpose of showing how I run a game.
But I’m interested in all your ideas. What is your barrier to running games online for Gauntlet Hangouts, and what can we do to remove those barriers?
We’d like to do some crowdsourcing for the Miscellany in Codex – Decay.
We’d like to do some crowdsourcing for the Miscellany in Codex – Decay. The Miscellany is called “Three dozen abandoned buildings.” Submissions need to be a single sentence, or 2-3 very short sentences. By submitting here, you’re agreeing to let us use it (you’ll get a credit on the issue). We’re looking for evocative stuff. The purpose of the Miscellany is to inspire the reader.
Importantly, your submission needs to identify the building by either name or description, and then include a short bit of history about it, or a rumor. The buildings can be from any setting (modern, fantasy, etc.)
Here are some examples:
“The old Cranston place, boarded-up ever since most of the family was discovered hanging by their necks from ropes tied to the living room rafters. Only little Jeremy Cranston was left alive, found playing with his toy trucks beneath the feet of his parents and siblings.”
“Tapper Tom’s, which was a popular watering hole among the local made men. Business started to drop off when Tom found Jesus, and the place was shuttered permanently after he went down South to join the tent revival movement.”
“The old mill fell into disuse when the crops dried up, though it enjoyed a brief burst of activity when the locals began grinding blood and bone beneath the stone in an attempt to appease an angry harvest god.”
On Wednesday we kicked off four sessions of The Warren. We’re using the Painted Desert scenario by Marissa Kelly.

I thought it went really, really well. The players did a fantastic job with their characterizations, and the story was both hopeful and tragic. Thanks to the players: Gerrit Reininghaus Michael Mendoza, Harry Morris, and Tyler Lominack.
Hello! Episode 114 of The Gauntlet Podcast is here! In this one, I sit down with Andrew Shields, contributing author on Blades in the Dark (and soon-to-be author of the official Blades novel) to talk about his upcoming game, Black Space. Black Space is a sci-fi game that uses The Black Hack as a foundation, but as I learned during the interview, is actually much more than that. Andrew has implemented a lot of really thoughtful design work in Black Space, and in keeping with a theme around here lately, has managed to blend some of the best aspects of modern indie gaming with OSR mechanics to create something I think is going to be really special.
Fingers crossed, Black Space will be hitting Kickstarter on November 1st. In the meantime, if you want to try to play Black Space with Andrew, he has some sessions up on Gauntlet Hangouts:
Lord Caspian Gal, Keeper of the Child Who Repeats the Numbers, is throwing a party and you are invited!

Below is a link to the first session of The Bloody Road to Bellet Osc, the newest We Hunt the Keepers! Dungeon World adventure. I had a group of players that can only be described as “All-Star” for this one: David LaFreniere Fraser Simons and Richard Rogers!
It was a fantastic session, filled with merriment, mystery, and murder!
