We just finished the seventh session of my Dungeon World conversion of the Temple of Elemental Evil, and we’re finally exploring the goddamn moat house. Hooray!

Thanks to Ferrell Riley Derek Grimm Sean Smith Eddy Gonzalez and John Roberts for what has been a pretty fun campaign so far!

A few pics from Wednesday One-Shots this week. We had two tables. Russell Benner ran Legend, which I gather is related to Runequest. It sounded like they had fun. I am led to believe they will continue the game next week, and if anyone wants to join them, Russ will have pre-gens for you so you can dive right in.

Our table played The Final Girl, and it was pretty terrific. Our setting was an Old Hollywood producer’s party, replete with starlets, a scheming supporting actress, a fading silent film star, and a hapless but lovable grip named Joe (among other characters). The killer was an insane screenwriter whose script was stolen by the film’s director. Everyone at the table really got chewy with the characters, and it was great fun.

If you haven’t been out to Wednesday One-Shots yet, you should definitely give it a try!

I’m considering taking one of the DW games into space, a la Spelljammer.

I’m considering taking one of the DW games into space, a la Spelljammer.

I’m considering taking one of the DW games into space, a la Spelljammer. As I re-read through the old 2e Spelljammer materials, I can’t help but admire the bold disregard for science the setting has. It is a fantastical “science” that fully embraces the practical necessities of running an exciting D&D campaign in space. It’s as if the writers were fretting about how things like flaming swords and magical armor and hand-to-hand combat would work in an airless, gravity-free void and said “Fuck it – gravity works like it does on Earth and everything has its own air bubble.” I love it.

So, here’s a thing we need: Someone who is willing to run traditional RPGs on Wednesday nights at Jax.

So, here’s a thing we need: Someone who is willing to run traditional RPGs on Wednesday nights at Jax. I’m thinking D&D, OSR stuff, Shadowrun, or even shudder Pathfinder. We know there’s a demand for it and we’d like to make it happen.

It is a hard requirement that any such GM be willing to run their game so that people can drop in and drop out from week-to-week. For example, if A, B, C, and D show up for session 1, you must be willing to continue the game if A, B, X, and Y show up for session 2. This flexibility is a hallmark of Gauntlet event organizing and it’s non-negotiable.

You should also be reliable. Rob Ferguson and I run 2-3 games each per week, without fail. Having the same passion as us is helpful.

A few pics from last night’s game of Apocalypse World: Dark Age. I don’t want to say too much about the game yet, because we’re still getting the hang of it (this will probably be a 4-6 session game). I like it so far. It’s got a few issues here and there, but it’s still in beta, so I guess that’s to be expected.

I’m sure some of you have already heard of this, but I just discovered it and it’s pretty damn cool.

For Story Game Sunday we played Ghost Lines.

For Story Game Sunday we played Ghost Lines.

For Story Game Sunday we played Ghost Lines. I have wanted to play this one for a long time and it did not disappoint! You play Line Bulls, who are electro-powered ghost hunters riding trains through a spirit-infested static waste. We did it Cosmic Patrol-style, with the GM rotating for every new line the characters rode on. This led to a nice variety of adventures. They each had their own tone and scope, and it was pretty damn cool. Frankly, more games should be run this way.

Thanks to Rob Ferguson, Derek Grimm and Jonathan Grabyan!

Who needs something to do tomorrow?

Who needs something to do tomorrow? I am making exactly one space available for our Monday night game. We will be playing Apocalypse World: Dark Age, which is a Game of Thrones-style fantasy game by Vincent Baker. It has some of the coolest play books I’ve ever seen in one of these games. Very excited.

It’s from 6:30-10:00 at my place. If you want to join us, be the first to comment below.
