Some dude over on the DW Tavern posted this game aid he uses, and it basically consists of a menu of plot kickers. It looks perfectly functional, but one of the options is “Lady Luck is a fickle bitch.” Am I the only one who finds that a little offensive? Not, like, clutching my pearls offensive, but just kind of off-putting? I’m sure homeboy didn’t mean any harm by it, but it just comes off a little misogynistic to me.

We played Meguey Baker’s 1,001 Nights for Story Game Sunday. We were having a terrific time, but it ended a little abruptly. I’m sure we’ll discuss it more on this week’s cast.

For Mandatory Fun Club last night, we played the 2nd edition of The Game of Thrones Board Game (the one published by Fantasy Flight). It is really damn great! There is a lot of table talk, which is something I like in board games, and there is a good amount of strategy without being too complex. It also does a nice job of capturing the flavor of A Song of Ice & Fire

I would like to point out that tomorrow is a celebration of necromancy.

I would like to point out that tomorrow is a celebration of necromancy. The question, though, is what type of undead horror would Jesus qualify as? Zombie? Lich? Ghost?

We had a terrific kick-off to our new DW campaign (which will continue through the summer). There were several great moments, including the appearance of the mysterious Red King, a hyper-OCD apothecary, and a hilarious scene involving the use of a bronze soup tureen to strike up conversation with slack-jawed peasants.

Also . . . mega-dungeon! The party hasn’t quite dipped their toes into it yet, but they definitely got some sense of its scale

Though it is entirely beyond your perception, this new campaign of Dungeon World is going to be fucking amazing.

Last night we played Epidiah Ravachol’s Invisible Empire.

Last night we played Epidiah Ravachol’s Invisible Empire.

Last night we played Epidiah Ravachol’s Invisible Empire. It was pretty great. It’s Tales of the Arabian Nights by way of Swords Without Master. The players take the role of courtiers of the Silent Emperor, telling stories of Dread and Awe, in the hopes of not boring/offending the Emperor and getting themselves killed. I would love to play it again, mostly because I think we weren’t really on our best behavior, tone-wise (I think it had already been a long week for some of us), and the restaurant was particularly noisy last night. I think in a small, quiet environment, with everyone sticking to the tone, this one would be really damn cool.

Thanks to Daniel Lewis and Russell Benner for prepping, and to Scott Owen Kristen D Gary Wilson and David LaFreniere for coming out!

This is really something. Paizo is basically saying “Pathfinder is a hot mess. Maybe this book will fix it.”
