Has anyone had any oddities playing the Discern Realities podcast using the Google Podcasts app on an Android phone?
Has anyone had any oddities playing the Discern Realities podcast using the Google Podcasts app on an Android phone? I know this is a specific tech question that we don’t normally discuss here but I’m posting in case it could be something to do with the way an episode of this podcast has been marked up…
Specifically, I’ve listening through the episodes for the first time (starting at 1 and working upwards). This was fine until I hit around episode 24 which, in my timeline, was when the “Codex Volume 1 Kickstarter Special” episode was released. Ever since then when I start listening to the podcast it jumps to that episode and starts playing it.
Muttering to myself I stop that episode in the app and then select the one I was half way through (say episode 35). Here’s the really weird bit: it then starts playing the “Codex Volume 1…” again but the app tells me it’s playing episode 35 on the UI. It really, really thinks it’s doing it right.
Maybe this is the Google Podcast app being crappy but I haven’t been able to find any reports of that kind of behaviour online so I was wondering if there might be a configuration issue (e.g. some meta-data attached to an episode) that is causing Google Podcasts to get confused.
Anyway, happy to take this offline. I’ll continue trying to dig around the internets for other ideas also. Thanks for making it this far!

Codex Kickstarter – New Stretch Goal – Lovecraftesque: The Light of Other Stars
We have unlocked Jason Morningstar’s Night Witches: Koldunya and are ready to announce a new stretch goal: Joshua Fox’s Lovecraftesque: The Light of Other Stars.
If we can hit $21,000, Josh will write the first major expansion for the award-winning game Lovecraftesque, which will add campaign play to the mix. Josh will write guidelines for linking multiple scenarios so you can change what was previously a one-shot game into a game that can be played over multiple sessions. This stretch goal will also include a series of three cyberpunk scenarios, each of which can be used individually or linked-up using the campaign guidelines.
Here is Josh’s description for Lovecraftesque: The Light of Other Stars:
The Light of Other Stars is the first ever Lovecraftesque campaign pack. It will bring eldritch horror to a cyberpunk setting. It will contain three scenarios that can be played standalone or as a sequence of stories, gradually escalating the threat. Uncover the inhuman forces beneath the skin of cyberpunk. It will also include guidelines for creating a campaign pack.
Lovecraftesque is one of our community’s favorite games, and I am really delighted we will be able to bring this expansion to you. BUT, it’s only going to happen if we hit that stretch goal. Please re-share and please help spread the word!
Due to some unexpected family stuff that needs my attention this weekend, I’m going to have to skip GauntletCon this year.
Most of the games I had signed up for had waitlists, but for the two that didn’t, I wanted to post here so people know there are openings and maybe we can fill those seats for the GMs.

I am looking to get two roll20 based games together for an upcoming Childs Play stream on 11/17/18. I will be streaming a mix of table top things in person, board game video games, and the two roll20 games. I’m thinking Lady Blackbird for one and maybe a paired down OSR-ish module run in Dungeon world for the other. The roll20 games would ideally run between 2-4 hours each, depending on player preference. I figured before I went trawling through the roll20 forums I would come to my favorite rpg community and see if any of you were interested.

So the podcasts are quite interresting and what brought me here.
So the podcasts are quite interresting and what brought me here. I like to talk about theory and best practice and whatnot, though and after hearing the +1 FORWARD on Custom Moves got hung up in what everyone there agreed on:
A move should only (negativily) impact the roller. Really? Like really? We, including me as an MC go to the fiction and let choices and rolls affect the characters and NPCs and just goals of the non-rollers. The last time I played a Hardholder it seemed everyone’s choices and rolls negatively impacted my investment and plans for the Hardhold.
Though I agree that it’s shitty to be on the end of all your mates foolish shenanigans, I am of the opinion that it’s often right to let the other players experience the fallout of other rolls. (Especially in Monsterhearts, in my opinion.)
So, am I missing something? Was the podcasters just promoting “Best practice to avoid the 90’s Alpha Players”, or is it the common belief in this community?
