Kinda a little late for our discussion on Blades in the Dark, but there are some interesting ideas regarding how to use technology to handle the juggling of clocks this game can require.
This is a link to the second episode of a discussion split between two episodes and contains the topic of using technology for handling the game’s complexity. The first episode has a nice lead-in to the game with a discussion of the basics of the game and how some of its mechanics can be applied to other games. Interesting, but similar to the discussion on The Gauntlet episode 23 where BitD was discussed.
Edited for grammar.

Thank you all so much. I know this is just a podcast about a niche hobby, but it’s really one of my favorite things right now.
I don’t know how better to put this, but: The Jank Cast used to be my favorite podcast. I still listen to every new episode they put out, but now The Gauntlet Podcast has become my Jank Cast 2.0. I just love the in-depth discussion about playing games better.
I know this is a really weird way of saying how much I appreciate all of your work, but I hope it’s well received!
Thanks!

Don’t give-in to the sadness, Patréon!
Take a break from Black Friday and enjoy this week’s episode of The Gauntlet Podcast. Kristen D joins us for a very fun Episode 34. I’m really happy about this one, because I think we turned a corner in terms of re-capturing the group chemistry that made the old FtF recordings of the podcast so special. We’re getting better and better at online recording, and that delights me.
Also, the conversation is really good (be sure to stick around for the stinger)!
Games we discuss include:
Andrew Medeiros and Mark Diaz Truman’s Urban Shadows
Josh Roby’s Renegade Jennys & Boilerplate Jacks
Uncharted Worlds
John Harper’s Lasers & Feelings
Dungeon World

Your Favorite Game of 2015
Your Favorite Game of 2015
In preparation for an upcoming episode of The Gauntlet Podcast, we want to hear about your favorite RPG of 2015. Tell us the name of the game (if possible, tag the author!) and why you selected it. We will share these on the episode in question (Daniel Lewis Richard Rogers Steve Mains and Kristen D need not offer their picks here).
Some notes:
1. It does not have to be a game released in 2015, just a game that was “giving you life” in 2015. So, maybe you played Pendragon for the first time this year and it knocked your socks off. Pendragon counts.
2. Use whatever criteria you wish. Maybe you played the game, maybe you didn’t. It could just be a text that really inspired you. That’s acceptable.
3. Please stick to RPG texts. Supplemental material like A Red & Pleasant Land is fine, too.
4. One game only, please.
I will periodically re-pin this post until we record the episode. I may also chime-in occasionally to ask clarifying questions.
Thanks!
We’re entering the time of year when people are traveling and/or spending time with their families.
We’re entering the time of year when people are traveling and/or spending time with their families. Speaking for myself, this is the time when I catch up on podcasts. In that spirit, I think we have a pretty good little archive on The Gauntlet Podcast, and you might enjoy giving select episodes a listen. Here are five of my favorites:
Episode 0
If you can cope with the rough audio quality, the main topic discussion on this one is really good. It remains the only episode to feature just Dan and myself, and I think our chemistry comes through in a really strong way.
Episode 12 – Melting the Special Snowflakes
This is the Gauntlet crew at its most opinionated. In this one, we really plant our flag in the ground in terms of a thing we don’t like in RPGs (in this case, when players front-load their characters). It also has a fun conversation about sea monkeys.
Bonus Episode – Our First RPGs
I love this episode so much. It’s a bonus episode in which various hosts talk about their first roleplaying game experiences. There’s a thick layer of nostalgia, and Doyle’s amazing story about playing D&D with a Mormon family remains one of the highlights of this whole podcast project for me.
Interview with Grant Howitt
Grant is a real treat. That’s all I have to say.
Episode 27 – Threeforged Roundup
The Threeforged contest was a really important moment for The Gauntlet. I think the way we engaged with it was our community at its very best, as it strongly incorporated our three “pillars:” the G+ Community, the podcast, and our game calendar. In this episode, we discuss many of the games we played, including eventual contest finalists Field Work, Children’s Radio Hour and Last Year’s Magic.
HONORABLE MENTION: Redacated Segments #001, which I know some people really love.
For Episode 33 of the podcast, we are joined by guest co-host Jason Morningstar. Maybe you’ve heard of him?

Kevin Allen Jr.’s Sweet Agatha
Lamentations of the Flame Princess
Jackson Tegu’s Kaleidoscope
