We’re entering the time of year when people are traveling and/or spending time with their families. Speaking for myself, this is the time when I catch up on podcasts. In that spirit, I think we have a pretty good little archive on The Gauntlet Podcast, and you might enjoy giving select episodes a listen. Here are five of my favorites:
Episode 0
If you can cope with the rough audio quality, the main topic discussion on this one is really good. It remains the only episode to feature just Dan and myself, and I think our chemistry comes through in a really strong way.
Episode 12 – Melting the Special Snowflakes
This is the Gauntlet crew at its most opinionated. In this one, we really plant our flag in the ground in terms of a thing we don’t like in RPGs (in this case, when players front-load their characters). It also has a fun conversation about sea monkeys.
Bonus Episode – Our First RPGs
I love this episode so much. It’s a bonus episode in which various hosts talk about their first roleplaying game experiences. There’s a thick layer of nostalgia, and Doyle’s amazing story about playing D&D with a Mormon family remains one of the highlights of this whole podcast project for me.
Interview with Grant Howitt
Grant is a real treat. That’s all I have to say.
Episode 27 – Threeforged Roundup
The Threeforged contest was a really important moment for The Gauntlet. I think the way we engaged with it was our community at its very best, as it strongly incorporated our three “pillars:” the G+ Community, the podcast, and our game calendar. In this episode, we discuss many of the games we played, including eventual contest finalists Field Work, Children’s Radio Hour and Last Year’s Magic.
HONORABLE MENTION: Redacated Segments #001, which I know some people really love.
