Favorite Game of 2016 Audio Submissions

This is one last reminder that we are taking short audio submissions from community members to include in our Favorite Games of 2016 episode of The Gauntlet Podcast. Here are instructions:

1. Your favorite game should be a tabletop RPG, not necessarily released in 2016. You can use any criteria you wish in naming it your favorite.

2. Begin with “My name is [your name] and my favorite game is…”

3. Explain why it’s your favorite game in approximately 30 seconds.

4. Upload your audio clip (preferably in .wav, but other formats are fine, too) to: https://www.dropbox.com/request/s8Z697jzH7DkyfEFFo8p

I’d love to get about ten more submissions by tomorrow morning. It’s super easy to do; you can even just record directly into your phone (audio quality is not a priority on these).

Thanks!

David LaFreniere and I don’t have DR for you this week, but we do have Episode 02 of our Domenico Castafiel AP!

David LaFreniere and I don’t have DR for you this week, but we do have Episode 02 of our Domenico Castafiel AP!

I’m really proud of how this one turned out. David & I have always tried to achieve a certain tone & ambiance with the Domenico APs – decadent & lush, but with undercurrents of bloody horror – and I think we’re maintaining that here.

Anyway, let us know what you think.

CONTENT WARNING: this AP deals with themes of sexuality and body horror, and so may not be to your taste.

Enjoy!

Favorite Games of 2016 Audio Submissions!

Do you have a favorite game of 2016? Would you like to hear your voice on The Gauntlet Podcast?

A few weeks ago I posted a thread asking for you to tell me about your favorite roleplaying game of 2016. That thread can be found here:

https://plus.google.com/108530078404383929502/posts/K9V7eJ5C33S

We thought it would be fun to include short audio clips of you guys telling us what your favorite game was into our big, end-of-year Favorite Games episode. To participate, please first read the linked post. Then, record a short bit of audio explaining your pick.

Here are the specific instructions

-Start with “My name is [your name here] and my favorite game of 2016 was [name of game]. The reason why I chose it…”

-No more than 30 seconds long

-WAVformat

-Deadline 12.10.16

-Send it to this Dropbox link:

Meet Terrence Witt, the small-town Dog who just showed up for a baby naming. It’s Episode 03 of Dogs in the Vineyard on Comic Strip AP, and this time Noah Jay-BonnĀ is in the player’s seat as Terrence!

I’m trying to locate a custom move, I believe I originally heard it on the Discern Reality podcast.

I’m trying to locate a custom move, I believe I originally heard it on the Discern Reality podcast.

This move was based on contact with an Oracle, after which you had a number of Hold. These Hold allowed you to specify a roll as one of the possible events that would be the characters death. Ultimately it allowed for an XP Point and on a 6 or less meant character death.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Crowd-Sourced Interview

As many of you know, Slade Stolar & Scablands Press have been sponsoring Discern Realities the last couple of months. David & I thought it would be fun to have Slade on the show to talk about The Indie Hack in a more in-depth manner.

As a general matter, we’ve been thinking about doing some interviews on the show, and I’d like to try something out with this one: audience-sourced questions.

So…what do you want us to ask Slade about The Indie Hack? Post your questions in the comments here. We’ll pick four or five of them to ask Slade when we record that episode. We might even be able to get him to answer some of your questions in the comments after we’re done.

Thanks!

What’s going on with Pocket-Sized Play?

What’s going on with Pocket-Sized Play?

What’s going on with Pocket-Sized Play?

A few people have asked about the status of Pocket-Sized Play. The answer is that the show is presently on hiatus.

When Tim, Tor & Timothy approached me with their idea for PSP, none of us really knew what was involved in putting together an AP podcast, but I thought they had a good pitch, and I wanted to see where it would go. As it turns out, editing a 2 hour session down to the most interesting 20-30 minutes is very difficult and time-consuming. Combine that with the scheduling difficulties associated with participants in wildly different timezones, as well as some unclear lines of creative authority between the participants, and the project just kind of fell apart.

And yet I do not consider PSP a failure. We learned a lot of valuable lessons from it, and we have embedded those lessons deep into the DNA of Comic Strip AP. The biggest lesson we learned is that the Gauntlet, so fundamentally driven by notions of community and participation, is not a good fit for a project that kind of exists in its own little world, as PSP did.

So the show is on hiatus while we figure out where it goes from here. Timothy Bennett has expressed an interest in re-tooling and re-launching the show at some point in the future, and we may have more to share on that soon.

Thanks!

It’s the one-year anniversary of Discern Realities! David LaFreniere and I are celebrating by launching our brand-new comic strip AP for Dungeon World!

This AP is focused on Domenico Castafiel, a character who, along with his brother Lucero, we originally followed on Episodes 12-28 of DR. As with that series, this AP explores themes of sexuality and body horror, and it may not be to your taste.

Take a listen, let us know what you think, and enjoy!
