Played One Last Job one last time with my local Baltimore crew last night. We managed to have a good time, but we basically had to ignore all the action scene rules.

Next time I want to play some gonzo raid/task related stuff, I’m pull up Goblin Quest.

This past weekend-ish, The Gauntlet: Rubber City managed to play three games!

On Sunday, Jeffrey Steinwachs continued GMing our ongoing adventures in Jason Morningstar’s Night Witches. This game continues to blow my mind!

Monday night, we played our first game in a two-part series of Marshall Miller’s The Warren. This ended up being one of my favorite play experiences yet. (Poor Falafel.)

We finished The Warren kind of early, so we decided to play a quick game of Shane Mclean’s Cheat Your Own Adventure. The Crypt of Torment!

Huge thanks to Jeffrey Steinwachs, Simon Hunt, Greg Lanum, and (first-time roleplayer) Annie Benson for making it a great two days of gaming!

Thanks so much for your playtest and podcast episode about Maroon Corps!

Thanks so much for your playtest and podcast episode about Maroon Corps! I updated the game with some new mechanics, character generation quirks, and will be adding a new ship/dungeon in a week or two!

Has anyone had a chance to try Paul Taliesin’s Thus Began the Adventures of Eowyn?  It focuses on Eowyn as a survivor who is both strengthened and haunted by her experiences during the War of the Ring, and the ways in which this shapes her response to a new evil.  Mechanically, it uses Lady Blackbird-style keys that allow the character to change and grow when she faces situations in which she has to abandon or question her motives and assumptions.   The game came to mind when I was listening to the discussion of Lowell’s home brew Tolkien campaign in Episode 59. . . .

I have a friend who runs an open table, weekly, game at a local pub.

I have a friend who runs an open table, weekly, game at a local pub. There’s normally between about 8-12 players. He’s been using the Fantasy Age system with the Freeport setting.

Recently he commented that he was looking for a new system to use (preserving the setting and characters as much as possible). He is after something a little lighter, that will play well with a large number of players and that has more horizontal, rather than vertical, character growth. Basically the game runs on the basis that you get XP for the session you attend, so there is a substantial level difference at times (he doesn’t want to change this mid-way through and screw over the more committed players who have attended on that basis).

My question is, does anyone have any good ideas about what systems might be worth checking out (noting that he isn’t big on Fate, and I don’t think playing Fate with 12 players would be very functional anyways)?

I was wondering: what are the recommended player counts for The Final Girl?

I was wondering: what are the recommended player counts for The Final Girl? I played with 3 and it was great. Does it really work all the way up to 8 players?

Forgot to post about it for a bit, but The Gauntlet: Rubber City is still going strong.

Two weeks ago, we played out the lives of the last Mars colony in The Quiet Year.

Last week, we had a very atmospheric, if slightly broken, game of Society of Dreamers.

And finally, yesterday, we had a fantastic session of Night Witches, GMed by Jeffrey Steinwachs.

Thanks to Simon Hunt, Greg Lanum, David Wang, Jeffrey Steinwachs, and Anne Marie Blankenship for the fun times!

Hey, Gauntleteers. This sounds very interesting. Check it out!

A couple of years ago i wrote a hack of Montsegur 1244 called The Daughters of Verona in which you play Shakespearean comedies. 4+ players, about 4 hours, GM-less.  No experience of Shakespeare necessary, but if you like his comedies you’ll feel at home right away.

I don’t think it would work very well for a hangout game, but if you’re a Hangout gaming expert I suppose you could try a conversion.

I’d gladly give away a couple of copies to the Gauntlet crowd if anyone would be interested in giving it a go.

Send me an email at wilhelmsgames@gmail.com and I’ll hook you up.
