Gauntlet League Wrestling
Gauntlet League Wrestling
We saw the first session of the new season of Gauntlet League Wrestling broadcast yesterday. It was a pretty amazing performance, showcasing old hands and new faces. Fabuloso, The Executioner, Terry Burns!, Cyborg Destroyer, Jeffery Bleakwood, and Harbinger all had on-screen time. Awesome drama erupted and I’m looking forward to seeing these rivalries play out. I had a message from The Hooded Luchadore. He’s going to do a reaction video, but he hyperventilated during that last match, so he’s delayed.
This was World Wide Wrestling (a game you should check out). We had a Cultural Champion, Veteran, Wasted, Time Bomb, Provocateur, and Monster respectively. If you’d like to see the character creation heat map, you can check that out here:
The actual wrestling play starts at 58:08
Thank you Saffire Rainbo and Fraser Simons for pointing this out.

Coming to KickStarter one month from today!!
For the past year, Andrew Medeiros and I have been co-developing The Watch. It’s baked and ready, and we’re in the final stages of KickStarter prep right now.
What is The Watch? Well:
The Watch is a low-fantasy game about women (and other female-of-center people) who are fighting to retake their homeland from the Shadow – a darkly sorcerous threat that has the power to possess men and use them for its own violent ends. So much has already been lost to the Shadow – land, loved ones, and traditions. But your people have come together, forming a new fighting force from those able to resist the Shadow, which they call the Watch.
The story of The Watch is structured around the military campaign against the Shadow’s forces. You will tell stories of war, love, and sacrifice as your characters fight to hang on to what they have left.

We’ve got a lot of exciting stuff planned for our campaign, so follow us at #JoinTheWatchRPG over the next month for previews and campaign announcements, after we launch on February 14th! And as ever, sharing is caring.
Thank you!

On Wednesday we kicked off a three-session series of Dungeon World called Wildspace. We used my Spelljammer custom move set, which I’m happy to report worked very well.
It was a great session. For starters, the players did a good job capturing the tone. At the outset, I explained to the group that because our last few series had a very heavy, grimdark tone, I wanted to go with something a little more lighthearted for this one. The players delivered with a high adventure, swashbuckling approach to their characters, coupled with a fair amount of blue humor, which kept the laughs coming.
My favorite moment was near the end. After a successful space battle with a gnomish sidewheeler, the captain of that ship, Butternut Treefoil, made a desperate bid to save himself by trying to take a hostage on the deck of the party’s hammership. One of the characters, Phillip’s tiefling bard (using the excellent Bard playbook by David Guyll and Melissa Fisher), did his move Magical Music, which not only subdued Captain Butternut, but also had a profound effect on other members of the party. Each took a moment to share how the bard’s song affected them, and we set up some future scenes to explore how the bard’s art might help some of the characters deal with the demons of their past. It was all very lovely.
Big thanks to my players from that session: Phillip Wessels Fraser Simons Christo Meid and Timothy Bennett
Mandatory Fun Club

We often have people approach us with an interest in running a game over Hangouts, but they feel uncertain about the logistics of doing so. Maybe they aren’t familiar with our procedures, or they aren’t sure if they are set up properly from a tech standpoint.
Daniel Fowler has offered to do something cool we’re calling Mandatory Fun Club. Basically, it’s kind of a guided one-shot, where he helps you get your game setup and guarantees you’ll have at least one player. It’s perfect for people who want to try running something over Hangouts in a lower stakes environment than our normal game calendar.
For details, check out this doc Fowler put together:

My face-to-face group played The Final Girl in the style of a extraction mission gone wrong.
My face-to-face group played The Final Girl in the style of a extraction mission gone wrong. It was amazing. Everyone had codenames, their quirks and skills came easily. The introductory scenes were just effortless. In the heart of the mission, playing the cards held so much suspense.
Highly recommend the scenario.

Had a fun impromptu session of Dungeon World with Phillip Wessels and Yoshi Creelman. I was inspired by Yoshi’s narrative description of his wizard’s spellcasting and made this magic item:
Lilliastre’s Lens Cloth (3 uses, 1 weight)
This scrap of cloth appears to have been cut from a luxurious wizard’s robe. It’s incredibly soft to touch and glimmers with an obvious magical sheen. When you rub a lens (such as on a pair of spectacles or a spyglass) with the cloth, roll+INT. On a hit, you can see the presence of magic through the lens for a short time, and the GM will tell you what here is magical. •On a 12+, the effect is permanent. •On a 7-9, the lens is smudged; your perception of the material plane will be altered while looking through the lens until the effect wears off.
Anybody have any magic items from recent games they’d like to share?
