I am very proud to be involved in my small way in The Gauntlet’s newest podcast effort, Fear of a Black Dragon. The most recent episode examined the Dungeon Crawl Classics funnel, Sailors on the Starless Sea, which is featured in the Goodman Games Hurricane Harvey Relief Bundle. Check it out! The bundle, that is. The ‘cast is already done linked.

I’ve been signal boosting the con a bit but not sure how much good it’s doing.

I’ve been signal boosting the con a bit but not sure how much good it’s doing. Not looking forward to being able to run anything as close to time as it is. Will have to see about playing something. I’m sure my regulars wouldn’t mind me going to a convention for one week.

Good times yesterday at the inaugural Gauntlet NYC minicon! Pictured are a game of Psi*Run, a game of Fall of Magic (left-to-right Marke Hallowell, Richard Ruane, and Shane Liebling), and a our end-of-day group shot. Ignoring my giant selfie face in the foreground, left-to-right on the couch are Richard Ruane, Robert Bohl, Shane Liebling, Dylan Ross, and Michael X. Heiligenstein. Not pictured is Robert Bohl’s playtest of his game Demihumans, but in case you missed it, there’s a great recap of the game here: https://plus.google.com/+RobertBohl/posts/RHg4DrE1bGQ

Thanks to Shane for hosting, Robert Bohl for organizing, and all the attendees for a fun day!

Japanese Teacher: Okay, let’s try to make unique cards.

Me: Okay, 4 locations decks of 10 cards each?

JTE: 1, 2, 3,…40 cards. sure.

Me: By November, right?

JTE: sheepishly Maybe October….?

Me: Uhhh…..I’ll try?

We’re using the board from Flying Frog’s “Touch of Evil” as a focus thing, but not actually using dice just having kids say “I go here.”

Goal is to get kids to talk and answer questions or tell parts of a story.

The cards and such are to facilitate that.

Thinking a mechanic based on number of sentences the student says resulting better situations for them.

Junior high school kids, native Japanese.

Anybody else have ideas?

I did a bit of damage with my Crackling Sphere (a lightning version of Flaming Sphere) but mostly it was used for generating light and herding creatures so that they went in specific directions. Still, that was very useful.

I have only seen half the schedule for Gauntlet Con, but the list of games so far is so. fucking. good. Like, bonkers good. And we have a fair number of big-name game runners who haven’t even been announced yet.

Gauntlet Con is going to be hawt. Big dreams to Richard Rogers and Kate Bullock for all the work they’ve done on it.

Hi everyone!

Hi everyone!

Hi everyone! Some of you know Ferrell Riley, but some of you don’t. Ferrell is the person who took over running Gauntlet Houston after I left. One of the things I was worried about when I moved to NJ was whether Gauntlet Houston would continue to be a going concern. Fortunately, Ferrell and others were able to step in after I left, and not only did they keep it going, but it has also grown considerably.

Ferrell was hit pretty hard by Hurricane Harvey. He lost almost everything he owned. Some people had been inquiring about how they could help him out, and so he set up a Paypal and Venmo to take donations. I’m sharing those links here in case you want to help out. Ferrell has given a lot to the Gauntlet community over the years, and it would be nice to help him out during this time. Even just messages and well-wishes go a long way.

History of Cyberpunk RPGs: Part Four

Woot! Talk about cutting it close. I almost didn’t get one in for August. My excuse is Gen Con & getting drunk on all the phat loot from pawning my silver ENnie medal. Despite that, I managed to get in another installment of my Cyberpunk History lists, this time covering from 2004 to 2007. It’s an interesting collection, filled with the last hurrah of d20 Sourcebooks and Cyberpunk 2020 itself. It also has contains an rpg with the most soul-destroying character sheet I’ve yet seen. Check it out, reshare, and maybe support my Patreon!
