Hi Everyone!

Hi Everyone!

Hi Everyone!

A co-worker of mine dropped by this morning to give me a copy of a friend’s kickstarter-backed card game.  The short version is that due to noobie kickstarter mistakes he screwed himself on production cost and the project didn’t get very far.  However, he’d love feedback on the game itself (and some general exposure) as he is a game maker and has several other projects in the works.  Scott and I are going to get to Jax early (6:15) and play-test it and we’d love it if people wanted to join in. From what we can tell it should take about 20 minutes to play and won’t in any way interfere with our Wednesday night revelry 🙂

Once our five-session campaign of Grim World has ended, the Gauntlet Anthology will be ending as a regular, weekly occurrence. Beginning in February, Fridays will no longer have a dedicated purpose. The nature of the activities scheduled on Fridays may change from week-to-week. There might be multi-session length games, one-shots, movie/game night combos, stunt scheduling, etc. We may occasionally play a game in which we re-visit the Anthology world (including on other days of the week) but it will not be as frequent.

I was thinking of doing a poll to see what kinds of things players would like to do on Fridays, but then I remembered that’s silly – the Gauntlet is not a democracy. Trust that whatever I schedule on a given Friday will be terrific fun and you will regret missing it.

Some pics from our first Story Game Sunday of 2015. We played Graham Walmsley’s A Taste for Murder. I like this one a lot. In fact, we discussed this one a bit on Episode 0 of the podcast (plug, plug), so go check it out. The game has a tendency to be a little silly, but that’s part of its charm.

Thanks to Daniel Lewis Steve Mains Ferrell Riley Jaime and Belinda.

For the first game of 2015, we started a Grim World campaign.

So far, I’m enjoying it quite a bit. The playbooks are very unusual and cool. These are definitely not your standard D&D-esque classes. I’ll be curious to see where the story goes.

There’s a new Bundle of Holding that just went up, this time for Delta Green.  Delta Green is Pagan Publishing/Arc Dream’s setting of Lovecraftian madness and governmental conspiracy.  It’s more or less The X-Files meets Call of Cthulhu.  Speaking of:  it’s a supplement for Call of Cthulhu, but everything would port over to Cthulhu Dark easily enough.  (If anyone’s interested, I have some DG drifted rules I found to add to Cthulhu Dark in order to differentiate a bit better between occupations.)

The ideas are spectacular, and DG basically fixes all the non-mechanical problems I have with Call of Cthulhu.  It also tends to focus a bit more on the human element of mythos weirdness, which I like.  Hello, Christmas present to self!

I don’t know if this is common knowledge or not, But Sandy Petersen, author of the original Call of Cthulhu, will be running two eight hour sessions of CoC at Owlcon, unless it’s a great big April Fools joke.

Excuse me while I geek out here a moment: Ho-lee shit

As I write this, there are still seats available on Sunday. You have been warned.

Here are some pics from our last Wednesday game of 2014. We are three sessions into our Monsterhearts campaign and, while I can’t speak for Russ’s table, ours is going very well. The story we’re weaving together is dark and challenging and incredibly disturbing. I’m loving it so far, and can’t wait to see the conclusion in January.

Thanks to Russell Benner for running the other table, and to everyone else who came out!
