This is in the opening paragraph of a recent Slate article discussing Making a Murderer:

“Not only had the state of Wisconsin bestowed upon the American people Ed Gein, Jeffrey Dahmer, Gov. Scott Walker, and Dungeons & Dragons (not to mention the incomprehensible 2014 “Slender Man” stabbing), but now it had added to those considerable gifts a tentacled law enforcement bureaucracy concerned more with covering its own ass than with the pursuit of justice.”

That’s a pretty cheap shot at D&D. I mean, Scott Walker? Seriously? That’s pretty fucked up.

Today I brought the Gauntlet spirit to the Meetup group in Amsterdam and played The Final Girl (GM-less, pool of characters, card based) and Murderous Ghosts (One GM, all the players playing the same character, card based) back to back with four random people.

What have you done to spread the gospel?

Hail Satan!

In an effort to enhance my Gauntlet Hangouts experience I have made some investments that many would deem unnecessary or even irresponsible. What these small minded individuals do not understand is that no sacrifice is too great for the Gauntlet. #hailsatan

It has come to our attention that a few characters have been seen collecting, sharing and abusing Purple Lotus Powder during Official Gauntlet games.

Purple Lotus Powder is not cool.

It is not adventurous.

It is not fun.

It is dangerous!

Side effects vary but can include:

Loss of limbs, loss of shadow, loss of memory, loss of spiritual connection, addiction, thoughts of suicide, (predator style) heat vision, drastic changes to stats and death.

If you see another player “marking off a use” of purple lotus powder, take a moment to have an in-character discussion about how important their character is to yours and the party.  Tell them the dangers, urge them to quit and be supportive.  Lets try to make a fresh start for 2016 and remove the stain of purple lotus powder from our character sheets.

Another guest at the hotel I’m staying at in Mississippi was just asking about my Gauntlet shirt. She was an older teenager, so I figured she was probably interested in other geek stuff. After I got done with the standard “It’s like Dungeons & Dragons” part of the conversation, she says, in a very serious tone:

“Those games are evil. Aren’t you worried about being tempted by the Devil?”

I dead-panned: “Well, I’ve been worshipping the Devil for years, so it’s no big deal.”

She went back to eating her waffle.
