I am aware that Fridays have been typically hard to fill and I have been advised to maybe try another day of the week. And while I could do that right now during my vacation, in general the only open time I have is going to be Friday nights since other slots in the weekend already are devoted to me gaming with other people.

So, I’m trying to get the idea of being willing to run games on Fridays for people that find themselves with nothing to do in mind. Though, with warning of course, so I can adjust my sleep schedule accordingly.

Anyway, advertising a couple of other places too.

I was going to run this on Friday, but nearly all the respondents so far have indicated that they are busy on that day and suggested moving it to the next Friday.

Okay, so I’m going to set a new one-shot coming up. For the moment it will be a single session event, we can see if it goes past that.

I am going to be running The Fellowship on March 24th(USA)/25th(Japan) with a sort of Armello theme. This won’t be live-streamed because as of yet I still don’t know how to do that.

I’m looking four 4 players.

Well, I think I went MIA over the holiday season.

Well, I think I went MIA over the holiday season. And plans to do some events during it never really firmed up. Part of that is I’m still trying to figure out how to set up a hangouts on air event in the new set-up.

In any case, I’ll probably try to have an event or two last week of March/first of April between school years, but I plan to let my ongoing campaigns settle a bit first before I do too much. (Running three at the moment, one MotW, one Divine Blood and one D&D 5e…the MotW might be winding down soon.)

I want to try the Fellowship with an Armello-esque theme still…anyway. we’ll see.

Not RP related, just thought I’d share a bit of an amusing tidbit about living in Japan.

Today is the day before all banks and ATMs close for 3-4 hours. You can tell because myself and a lot of other people were at the bank paying bills and taking out money to last the next couple of days.

Well, probably not doing anything over my holiday break….taking a look at it, it starts the 23rd and ends around…

Well, probably not doing anything over my holiday break….taking a look at it, it starts the 23rd and ends around Jan 6th or 7th….lots of family event times…will save for the two weeks in March/April when this school year ends and the next one begins.

Got back to my Divine Blood campaign tonight.

Got back to my Divine Blood campaign tonight.

The succubus used her biokinesis to turn the trees into acid-producing landmines. And appears to be heading toward the anti-vehicular power.

The vampyr got to show off her firearms skill and picked up an assault rifle (the only that wasn’t melted by acid). And now she’s learned to create some psychic knives for melee combat.

The Visionary remote-controlled several yakuza motorcades via her hacking to cut off reinforcements. And she is now taking a trip to become one of the world’s first Ainur (the human evolutionary equivalent to Gods and Demons)

The werejaguar tossed car parts at people and then shape-shifted in mid leap to jaguar form without even the slightest bit of stress on her spirit. I’m not sure where she is going with her XP, but she has nightmares to sleep away.

Okay, here’s the play grid for tonight’s session of Divine Blood and with this attempt by the yakuza to take advantage of the chaos…the God/Demon exodus is over and we move on to dealing with the Immortal refugees, the aggression of the Faerie Court as well as the Empire of Myanmar, and other issues. Play report to come later.

We want your mysteries! A not-so-secret cabal are going to put together a collection of Monster of the Week mysteries, and we need writers!

It will be a profit share gig, so each piece contributed will earn you a share of ongoing sales.

We’re interested in short (less than 1000 words), creative mysteries that have a cool concept and are easily adaptable to the users’ individual games.

I’ll be including my expanded weirdness rules for games that are more Fringe and X-Files than Supernatural and Buffy, as well, so mysteries that use those would also be appreciated. Get the draft at http://www.genericgames.co.nz/files/MotW_more_weirdness.pdf if you haven’t seen them.

We would also be interested in (in order of desirability) play advice, art, custom moves and other rules variants, and new hunter classes.

If you have ideas for other material, please write up one short sample mystery or other material (up to 500 words) and email it to me at michael.sands@genericgames.co.nz by the 18th of December 2016.

I would love sometime to run essentially the same scenario in different systems.

Might be best with different sets of players each time as well.

With Halloween on the horizon, I’m thinking of a specific horror/monster-hunting scenario….might have to wait til March/April for that though.

Had the realization that I only know one “fortune at the beginning” game which is a system my brother came up with for PbP games after he noticed that people were reluctant to post interesting descriptions of their actions because the dice might turn out badly.

So what he came up with was a system where the GM would set a description out with difficulties and enemy stats public and then the players would roll their dice before deciding what they do.

2 – you fail. You can try any number of actions but they all fail. Trying to do too much at once might be why you fail.

3 – you have a terrible showing. You get one action with a -2 to relevant totals. You might succeed at the action but you do it in an embarrassing manner as compared to your normal performance at this task.

4-5 – you do poorly. You get two actions at -1 to your relevant totals.

6-8 you put forth an average showing. 3 actions at +0

9-10 you put forth a good showing. Four actions at +1.

11 – you put forth an excellent effort. Five actions at +2 one or all your actions might still fail, especially if trying something outside your expertise, but you quite clearly surpassed your normal limits.

12 – you succeed. Six actions. They all succeed.

In case of tied numbers the better narrative/description wins giving advantage to the player because the GM describes first always. In PvP the aggressor describes first, I believe.

Descriptions need to represent your roll. So if someone with excellent fighting skills rolls low they might still hit a weak opponent but because of frustration, bad luck or something it is not a pretty success and most people watching can easily see that they should have done better. Meanwhile if someone with low skills rolls high they might still fail but everybody is going to be impressed.

Also note that a good description of failing might cause you to get some benefit from the GM.

I ran it face to face in 30 min to 1 hour segments at a convention once. Worked pretty well.

Are there any similar games out there?
