This exercise forced me to confront the fact that my favorite games are my favorite because I like building other games upon them, rather than because I actually like playing them. 😳

  13. I tried to stick with published, but honorable mention definitely for Crossroads Carnival. Also, now reading through other people’s answers and kicking myself for forgetting WWW. 🙂

  15. Robert Nolan Ooh, would love to hear about Serial Homicide Unit sometime. I only recently learned of its existence. Don’t know anything about it, but it sounded neat! (We can take it elsewhere.)

  17. Rob Abrazado and Robert Nolan, if you do take it elsewhere leave a trail of breadcrumbs. I’ve had 13th Age for ever but never gotten to play it and am interested in Forthright, SHU and some of the other stuff I’ve seen go by.

  19. Graham Meinert Honestly (har har), I don’t know much about Forthright yet except that I am totally in love with its introductory sections, so it goes on the “right now” list. Opinion may change when I get to the system part. 😉

  21. Jesse Donavan Edmond Daaaaaang Better Angels. 🙂 I loved the idea of it, but I could not grok that system. Always told myself I’d sit down with it another day and try again. Maybe that day should be soon. 🙂

  23. Lowell Francis I didn’t get on with the quickstart at all (and still don’t) but the full book is excellent. It’s a very dense game and I don’t think it can be done in a quickstart format – if I’d have been asked the same question this time last year, it wouldn’t have been on my list at all.

  25. Lowell Francis A lot more Blades in the Dark than I expected, too. I still need more time with it myself. Love the text, but the gameplay is just kind of rough for how I run a game. I’ll be interested to hear what you say about it on Gauntlet 122.
