World of Dungeons – Death Frost Doom (Session 1 of 4)
I’ve got some Youtube videos for you today. The first is Session 1 of our Death Frost Doom series using World of Dungeons.
Death Frost Doom and World of Dungeons go together like avocado and toast, and this first session was a really great kickoff. Like all my first sessions, we spend a fair amount of time feeling out the characters and getting some establishing questions on the table to better hook them into the adventure. After some initial levity, the horror starts to sink in fast, especially once they get to the peak of the mountain.
Thanks to the players who joined me: Phillip Wessels Maciej Starzycki Jennifer Erixon and Gerrit Reininghaus

Cool! By the way, didn’t you run DFD at some point with Dungeon World? It would be interesting to hear what are your thoughts on the differences between running the module with DW or WoD.

I did. The major difference is that WoD characters aren’t nearly as competent as DW characters, which I think makes them a better fit for DFD. Also, it’s much easier to run the module straight out of the book with WoD. There isn’t as much need to adapt.

Thanks for the answer.

I like to use this opportunity to write down my thoughts about WoD after one session:
It’s my first time playing World of Dungeon and I like it a lot so far. Maybe because I rolled so well for character creation, haha.
With everything being a custom move (so to say) it definitely feels different for me. I usually try to bring my individual DW Moves a lot into play, checking my and the other players’ playbooks frequently.
I feel more free in WoD but also more responsibility to show my character’s hot spots more directly.

Gerrit Reininghaus I think that’s right. I’m always amused when people think WoD is the easier game vis a vis DW because it is the shorter game. In fact, it’s much more demanding from a roleplaying perspective. But it’s still not too difficult, and I really love it myself.

I feel that. 😊 like with many games, not really mattering how long the rules are, it would be interesting to see how people without any background knowledge would interpret them. Obvioulsy, the way we play WoD is influencee by the DW (and many others but DW a lot) experience we have.
Incredible that my brother and I learnt to play in 1989 at the age of 10 without any exposure to anybody else.

it’s not an “easier” game, but it is far simpler to grasp. it doesnt have the bloat that dw has. but i do wonder what folks without dw exp would think of it. how they would run it.
