TONIGHT I killed my white whale!

TONIGHT I killed my white whale!

TONIGHT I killed my white whale!

I have wanted, craved, opined, and whined to run my very own Baseball RPG for a very long time. I’ve run a few innings of playtest without any meat on the bones, ran a bit of a baseball story on Storium, but never made my own full-realized RPG that had all the bits in it, that made it to the table, that had dice (virtual or otherwise) slung.

Tonight, Paul Edson, Jason Cox, Pat Perkins, and chris norwood played a nine inning romp of a game with me! The Gauntlet City Goblins stomped the hated Pathfinders and took the league championship! I can’t stop using exclamation points!

Among the many highlights of the game, we had

– a failed attempt to steal home (which probably wasn’t a failed attempt to steal home after review, but there’s no instant replay in minor league baseball!)

– a bean ball that broke a PC’s arm and sent him to the hospital

– a brawl at the mound when the Goblins’ pitcher beaned one of the Pathfinders in retaliation

– the star Center-fielder stole a home run

– a huge bottom of the 7th that broke the game wide open

There are things to tweak, some stuff that didn’t work, ideas shared from my amazing players that will make it even better, but as it is, it worked! It was an incredibly satisfying event in my gaming life and I am so very thankful for such a wonderful group of players who are part of a giving and imaginative community of people.

The Bat Hack.

It is real.

  1. Sweet…and some say baseball is a non-contact sport…guess they never played in the East End Leagues! LOL. Now we need new Jerseys with the Gauntlet City Goblins logo on it!
