One thing I love about all the Gauntlet related podcasts is how seriously the stories are taken. I’ve looked around for other DW podcasts to listen to and have mostly been disappointed. I keep starting up podcasts only to get frustrated with how quickly they become absurd joke-fests. I have nothing against players getting together and becoming goofy together. I just don’t learn anything from listening to it.
All of the podcasts In the Gauntlet family are entertaining and instructional. Thank you for being awesome!
Thanks, Logan! It is something we take really, well, seriously. I prefer an easy, natural humor over the yuck-yuck fest most RPG podcasts devolve to.

Couldn’t agree more. Quality and focus.

You’re so on point, Logan Howard, that’s exactly what drew me to the show waaaay back when Paul Czege mentioned it. I still remember listening to early episodes with Daniel Lewis and nodding my head eagerly as they discussed the play of games trumping “so my character did this, and then this and then BWHAHAHAA”

Same here. I found The Gauntlet via Discern Realities when I was looking for good DW APs to learn from. I came across a lot where the emphasis was on improv comedy rather than engaging with the mechanics and fiction. Funny stuff to be sure, but not what I was looking for. DR, Comic Strip AP, etc., hit the sweet spot for me.

I honestly think it has a lot to do with courage. I get the feeling that most of the podcasts that fall apart do so because there is a certain vulnerability in playing your best game in front of a microphone.
I know I will hear interesting (and honest) conversations and “dive-in-head-first” gaming every time I tune in to any of the Gauntlet family of podcasts. That’s because the bar was set high from the beginning and everyone involved has the guts to keep that standard.

Yes!
I keep looking for any “serious” actual play podcasts.
I think it would be fun for more of these to exist.
Sure, a joke every now and then, especially if it works with the story, but I am interested in an interesting story and would love to see it play out through play.

This is why I became a supporter. Love the podcasts and the APs. Best ones on the internets.

Jesse Larimer That’s interesting that you would put it that way. Improv comedy suffers from the same thing. Scenes are much more hilarious to the audience when the performers take the situations seriously.
