Latest episode is here! I have Jason Cordova from the Gauntlet as a guest and we talk about the divide between indie and traditional gaming.

A very good episode with the Pod Couple! (If I do say so myself)

  1. I’m listening now and digging it. Great conversation from the pod couple. There is a weird audio popping sound happening from time to time as well, not sure if you’re aware of that.

  3. That was fun to listen to! I’ve enjoyed this podcast every time I’ve listened to it. This reminded me to subscribe now that I’m using a new podcast app!

  5. As someone who likes OSR and indie rpgs/story games, I just wanted to say that I would absolutely listen to an entire podcast/conversation between you two about the subject.

    Horseshoe metaphor, so good.

  7. I’ve been on and off the Hobbs & Frieds of the OSR G+ group, but Jason Hobbs always striked me as a nice, level-headed guy, and they have a nice community there. I’m thinking that there is an interesting possibility here to have a permanent podcast between two nice people coming from two sides of the gaming community, the OSR and “indy” games, that respect each other and can talk in a constructive and civilised way. This could be a good way forward to get rid of some of the toxicity that emerges from some members in both sides of the fence. Basically a come-together podcast that tries to demystify what these games do, why people play them, similarities and dissimilarities in design and gameplay culture, and that shows that there is no need to take sides and that there’s no actual issue to solve this besides misconceptions and misguided tribal behaviour. I’d love that and I think that such a podcast has the potential to do something very positive to the RPG scene at this point in time.

  9. Jools Thomas Yeah, I realized after recording I forgot to actually say. Fear of a Black Dragon is a play off the title of the rap album Fear of a Black Planet (the logo is even lightly suggestive of that album cover). Since FoaBD is a different kind of OSR show, we wanted to have a hip-hop theme rather than the heavy metal influences typical of the OSR. The little jokes we used to do at the end of the show were other hip-hop/D&D puns.
