Episode 38 of Discern Realities is here!

Episode 38 of Discern Realities is here! This one contains a discussion about what to do when an adventure finishes early, a custom move for handling mass combat (until Inglorious arrives), the Nerd Puppet compendium class by Paul Zimmer, and the AP, in which Urbina Castafiel comes clean.

Enjoy!

  1. I enjoyed that, for reasons both obvious and nonobvious. It was fun to hear about other Gauntleteer projects and this AP run has been super interesting on several levels.

  3. That AP was really challenging, because it was all dialogue. David and I don’t plan anything beforehand, and doing an all-dialogue scene on the mic, on the fly, is tough as hell.

  5. I meant to say this last episode, but I like how David LaFreniere always brings it back to the fiction. I think it was last episode where Jason Cordova said something like “I think we’ll leave it right there” and it would have been so easy to just end it. But David then said “okay” and gave us a visual of the scene with some dialogue. (I have to go figure out which episode this was now. It might have been Comic Strip AP of Domenico.)

  7. He did it in this AP too though. There was a moment when he was saying (as a player) how his character felt about something. But then he jumped into character and revisited that thought in dialogue.

  9. Jason Cordova David LaFreniere thanks for mentioning my ongoing project! By the way, you could have just asked me if you wanted to know a little more about it 😛

  11. Regarding Mass Combat rules: when you said you want a bird’s eye view of it, my mind directly went to adapting the Perilous journey move. Even more so if the characters are playing key roles in the battle. Is it something you had considered?

  13. Vincent Quigley Interesting idea. I’ve only taken one crack at mass combat in all my sessions of DW, but that seems like it could be a cool approach. I already heavily adapt the Perilous Journey move to be my “getting to know you” first session with a new group.
