Richard Rogers and I have been working on a podcast idea called Comic Strip AP for awhile. Below is a link to an overview document detailing how it will work. Take a look; we think it’s going to be a really awesome project! Feedback is welcome.

I enjoyed doing the 1 on 1 with Rich on Plus One Forward. I think it is a viable format. It’s not a no-prep deal, though!

Oh well, I guess we’re playing Monsterhearts then Saffire Rainbo.

Oh this is an awesome idea. Now to get my brother more involved. We have a great idea for a Shaman on the road that we havent been able to kick into gear yet.

I like it. A Lot. However as a listener and probably not a participant, I’d prefer it if there weren’t more than 4-5 (maybe 6) separate stories going on at the same time. That way I can keep up with each individual story.
I might also suggest that some pairs may want to record everything all at once, and edit it out to however many episodes. That would at least ensure that the strips end – at least for your guest pairs.

Jason Morningstar The dynamic is slightly different on Discern Realities, which is probably the better comparison for this project. On that show, because the story is ongoing, there isn’t as much pressure to have a tidy ending like there is on +1 Forward.

I agree. I was actually thinking to do just that. Sit down for 2 hours and cut/edit by scenes

To get set up for a recording, meeting up and so on, is a big commitment for just for 15min of recording

Robert Doe Chris Shorb We’re actually going to really strongly discourage that. Recording in 10-15 minute segments helps ensure the story stays good throughout, because you essentially have a week to think about each of your scenes. Recording for 2 hours straight either 1) requires a lot of planning beforehand or 2) is going to have a lot of not-great scenes.

Very true Jason. Hmm, going to have to plan meet ups

Robert Doe It’s not as difficult as you might imagine. It’s one of the things we’ll go over when we do the training.

Wanna swap The Veil for TIH for this Fraser Simons? (Thomas Novosel, can runaway be 1v1?)

Slade Stolar i have no idea why it would not do it. So yeah, i think it would work for 1v1 games.
Now im curious and want to try it.

From a purely listener’s standpoint, the one thing I would hate is a story that does not resolve.

Chris Shorb I would actually argue that most games probably end without a resolution. 🙂
Not that I’m arguing for incomplete games as part of this podcast, but it would be pretty representative of the way so many games end. With a whimper, not a bang.

Angela Murray Agree. But I don’t engage in entertainment to have a replication of my own life… I can have an RPG game that doesn’t end any old week… 🙂

Fraser Simons I was thinking we do some 1v1 of these two games in a different timeslot.

The weekly schedule is actually kinda probably the only way to play some things 1-on-1. Games with a heavier scene-setting load often need more players just to give everyone at the table time to think.

Hey Noah Jay-Bonn, yeah, Jason Cordova and I had talked about some possibilities for this! I’d be down to do a 1v1 on the fancy recording mic. 🙂

Time to do a lot of re-listening. In the forseeable future, when I have more free time, I’d love to do this! Maybe even a little musical bonus, just for kicks. I guess for now I’ll just keep playing games and meeting people. ☺

Chris Shorb One thing that might help address that concern is the fact I will be making myself available to the GMs in case they want advice on how to get their arc wrapped-up. I’ll be listening to each and every episode anyway, so I’m happy to chime in about stuff like that.

I’ve added an important clarification to the document re: recording length, based on some of the feedback I’m getting.

If i had A. Time to edit and B. Any skill in condensing jump cutting time in games I run i’d be very tempted to give this a go. As is i’ll happily listen along to all the awesome nuggets of story

Jason Cordova Richard Rogers How many segments would you want running at once? And what’s the minimum number of episodes you’d have to commit to ?

And also, does every segment have to be a different game?

Love the idea! Could we ask the casters to also document what they found works well in the 1v1 format? Many PbtA games are group oriented, so it would help to hear what worked well in adapting to the 1v1 format. This could be discussed on the Gauntlet podcast, of course, rather than mucking up the Comic’s cast.

Oli, I think 4-6 series is probably a good start. 10 episodes is probably the right number for a compete arc. I prefer different games to be played, but I don’t think it has to be an ironclad thing.

I’m interested in this but not sure if I’m set up to record audio right now, does anybody have some suggested software?
