What Here is Not What It Appears to Be?

Our love for the Fighter, a class which is pretty vanilla in other RPGs.

What Here is Useful or Valuable to Me?

A couple of magic items: the Purse of Empty Promise and the Ebony Cat.

What Is About to Happen?

We begin the adventure of Ramshackle Crow, the hero of our “comic strip” AP.

  1. Very promising first show. I´m really digging the Dragon Magazine vibe and looking forward to more custom moves, magical items and the actual play. Cheers!

  3. Horst Wurst Thanks! We’re happy with this as a first effort. We need to fiddle with the segment transition sound, and the overall audio quality will continue to improve as the show goes on, but I’m feeling confident about this one.

  5. Also, in case anyone is wondering, I’m waiting to get iTunes approval before I share this to other RPG communities (particularly DW Tavern). This is just a preview for the Gauntlet.

  7. Hey. Wow. Good first episode! I could hear just a bit of you two finding your conversational rhythm at first, but you quickly eased into it. The bit on Last Breath was good. (Though I suspect you can and will revisit it again.) You made my Sinister Solstice sound really cool. (Probably better than it really is.) So that was awesome! 🙂 And the segment I wasn’t sure if I would like, the AP bit, was really solid! Not only was it enjoyable to listen to, but it helped illustrate how moves work. I’m thinking you should occasionally target some  of the class moves in the AP segment to show them in action. And it was the right length (the AP segment and the podcast). Both left me wanting a little more, which is good. One tiny bit of advice, which you have probably already figured out, I would just forget that “mothership” stuff and refer to it as “The Gauntlet podcast.” It was kind of funny this episode, but it doesn’t seem sustainable because you will always have to remind people that the mothership cast is The Gauntlet podcast.

  9. Ray Otus Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, finding conversational rhythm is the hardest thing. I think

David and I eased into it quickly because we’re friends. It can be a lot tougher when you’ve just met people for the first time (the upcoming episode of The Gauntlet Podcast illustrates that point, as you’ll see).

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the mini-AP. I wanted it to feel “comic strip” length, and I think we nailed it. Also, that was 100% on the fly. David made his character beforehand, but there was otherwise no prep.

  11. Right. Probably no point in pre-planning them. You are a thief after all. If your moves don’t come up naturally then it would be a piss-poor playbook indeed.

  13. The heavens did open and the sum total of the world’s peoples did feel the light shine upon their lost, forgotten, and unused nipples. And lo were they revived and set to hardening and gesticulated from whence the glow originated. Thus the new and fertile garden of Discern Realities was found. I cannot wait to listen and hopefully I shall hear that it is good.

  15. Regarding the prospect of killing a character at the beginning of a campaign, I would at least do what I can to work as much of the character’s background into the background and story.

That way, even if a character doesn’t have much of an influence on the overall game, at least the work that the player put into the character background would.
