Episode 20 of the podcast is an experiment.

Episode 20 of the podcast is an experiment. We wanted to see what it would sound like if we recorded on Hangouts. It’s not unbearable, but the audio is definitely of questionable quality. It might takes us a few tries before we master it.

Due to the experimental nature of the episode, we didn’t go with our normal format. Instead, it’s just a short discussion about the qualities of story games. It’s the podcast equivalent of doodling.

  1. Most issues that I had were hearing your voice Jason Cordova, especially when you were making a comment while others spoke.  Otherwise it sounded like 3 guys on a hangouts calls.  Dan sounded fine, so if you upgraded your microphone it would just then depend on the co-host of the week I suspect.

I’ll add my thoughts about actual content once I finish, but it does mirror a conversation I had with a friend on why they need to switch to Dungeon World.

  3. You sounded great Daniel Lewis.

On the topic of the case for story games: for me it’s scratching the itch I have for creating story. Unlike Jason Cordova I read a lot, and a part of me has always wanted to try writing something longer than a few pages, and I have a few times. playing story games satisfies that itch so much more than me trying to force myself to write, and beyond that, the stories are better! More people around the table gives life to the story, taking it places I can’t predict, and I love that.

  5. Guy Pierce Yeah, after recording, we were talking about how best to get a reliable, high-quality remote recording session done, and reached the conclusion that we’d have to do what you suggest.

As Ferrell Riley noticed, Hangouts tends to rebel when two of us are trying to talk at the same time.  This would be fine if it wasn’t the medium we were recording ourselves through.

  7. I thought the sound quality was fine, I understand you are producing a show for free that I enjoy, I will not put the thumb screws to you. Other podcast do the same format, and it seems to be the standard. Kudos for trying something new.

  9. Main thing with any multi-host cast is to Levelator that sucker so one person’s not shouting in my ear and the next person whispering. With Hangouts that’s rarely an issue since it’s presumably all filtered by the software.
