  1. Fantastic episode!

Part of the ‘What am I supposed to be doing as a player?’ is what pushed me towards audience reactions in Pasión de las Pasiones! Definitely wouldn’t be for every game, but having a lot of cheering and whistling helps with telenovelas!

  3. I’d add more to answer for question one.

In my opinion PbtA players are much more open for meta-game. Meta-game used to mean for me that someone knows Monster Manual by heart and cheats in game by using that as leverage for tactical combat, in PbtA meta-game is used to drive story forward, suggest interesting course of action etc.

PbtA player are much more open for their character having problems, not only by having to pick from pick list, but also from all the 7-9 hard choices, where traditional players usually want to succeed all the times because most of times you can either succeed or fail in traditional games.

Lastly PbtA players play fiction first, take the shared responsibility for describing fiction and narrate. Traditional players often play with verbs “I attack him” or “Can I persuade him?” waiting and leaving all the heavy weight for describing fiction for GM (I guess this is partially the fault of the traditional system that clearly states, you just roll dice and GM says what happens).

  5. Fantastic. Love the topic, and I love that Rach Shelkey has been part of the show and is here in full force! Good rapport and combination of views and thoughts, and I love the sourcing of the community. Would be happy to have another episode continue these thoughts if more questions weren’t answered (but also happy for just future different episodes as well). Will have to give another listen due to denseness of the content, but just like the GauntletCon session led by Yoshi Creelman about being a good player, I’m loving the player-focused content in addition to the usual GM-based stuff.
