Hello everyone, I’m thrilled to announce that the latest +1 Forward episode is now out! Come listen to Brendan Conway talk about Masks – A New Generation, his PBtA game about Young Adult superheroes.
Brendan was a great guest, and we dug deep on some cool Masks mechanics. The Actual Play was very fun, and Brendan does a hilarious voiceover!
I normally don’t like supers games. I’m hoping that the AP in this episode changes my mind.

Ha! This was sweet! Love the comic voice as well!

One of the PbtA games on my list I couldn’t get to at BigBadCon. Really want to play a game of this one at some point soon. Looking forward to the episode.

hey Tomer Gurantz, I haven’t figured out scheduling, but I’ll be running Masks for Gauntlet’s Saturday Morning Cartoons next year.

Haven’t listened yet, but this is the one I’ve been waiting for!

I played Masks with my 4 year old son and even (or especially?) for him the moving stats based on others’ perception of oneselve was intuitive and cool. I really liked it.

And this is your chance to see what a Masks playbook looks like to an illiterate 4 year old. He played the Janus, hero name baby dragon and he could fuel his magic fire with Quetzal’s – his best friend – hyperdimensional energies. They go to kindergarten together and fought Megabot who tried to cheat locomotives from the railway convention into helping him becoming mayor of Berlin by blocking all trains.

Richard Rogers BUT I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS TO PLUS ONE AND WHIP CRACK!!!!!
Seriously, that was awesome fun. I had the pleasure of getting to play Masks with Brendan running it at Origins and I’m hoping to do the game justice when I run it. I ran it a few weeks ago for a one-shot and I’m hopefully starting a semi-regular campaign with it this Saturday.

I also wonder about the fate of Whipcrack and Plus One!
Brendan’s a pretty fantastic GM. I love how quickly he dove into the heart of what makes Masks a special game.
Angela Murray, I bet you’ll run Masks like a champ!

Richard Rogers I think what I loved most was how effortlessly Brendan seemed to be able to take your absolutely awful rolls and spin them into appropriate responses that weren’t just damage or bad stuff. It was absolutely the definition of failing forward. That last one with Whip Crack was brilliant. THAT is what I want to be able to do as a PbtA GM.

yes, that was a serious highlight for me, too, Ang.

Regarding Plus One, Negative One, and Whipcrack, great fun! I felt I was listening to the beginning of the origin story of the mysterious Zero, child of Plus and Neg. Running Masks was on my to-do list and after listening to the episode I need to shift some stats to make this happen. 🙂
