I run Dungeon World and really enjoy it. I like the idea of walking through the portal to a new adventure.

How long of a series do you hope to run in real time? How much in fiction time would you prefer to occur? (Big fan of Stargate btw!)

John Tynes’s unpublished game, written for West End Games but then the company folded, might be of interest: johntynes.com – Stargate SG-1
Here’s a version that a fan put into a more readable PDF and added a few rules to “finish” it.: http://gameworld.thesnakefarm.com/stargatesg1.php

David LaFreniere I love all the shows and I am thinking of an ongoing campaign if I can find folks wanting that.

I guess I could just run Dungeon World in a modern setting.

I also thought Monster of the week might work but I have never played it.

What is the core action you see PCs undertaking in this campaign? That decides the system

Aaron Griffin I see them being a SG team going through the gate.

I can’t tell if you’re dodging the question or not. What do they do there? Are they having sexy orgies? Trying to teach a robot what feelings are? Killing people?

If you’re familiar with DW you might try Adventures on Dungeon Planet.

I mean you could also have each portal be a different game as the adventure changes based on the other side of the portal… One portal its Adventures on Dungeon Planet, another its Monsterhearts… another its Bluebeards bride.

Fate Accelerated Edition, keep it light and easy with aspects rather than having to write up a bunch of custom playbooks.

Rifts. I mean, except for the rules.

I’d probably start by considering the Stargate SG-1 RPG (https://rpggeek.com/rpgitem/44987/stargate-sg-1). It’s a variant on Spycraft 1st edition and it’s not terrible.
However, I think we can do better. The Stargate SG-1 RPG feels a little dated and bloated these days. Its also difficult to get hold of (I have a copy – but I wouldn’t be willing to give it up for your game).
If you’re looking for high action pulpy Goa’uld fighting I’d probably look to Fate Accelerated or Monster of the Week.
If you’re looking for a slightly more contemplative investigative exploration game I might consider inSpectres.
If you were looking for a tactical squad based game I’d look to something like Faith The Sci-Fi RPG.
Finally if its all about the relationships within the team then you could run an interesting game with the
Drama System (Hillfolk) or Hot War.
I also seem to recall seeing a good Cortex+ Heroic hack for the Stargate universe.

Aaron Griffin I am not dodging the question at all. My plan was to make the party an SG group just like in the series and have them explore through the gate. I assumed everyone had seen this series or at least the movie.

I think the DrWho RPG would be a good option. It would cover everything you might find through the gates and it’s systems prioritise talking and problem solving over shooting.

It really suits something built for episodic play. I think I’d go with FAE or maybe something like Atomic Robo.

GURPS is a good candidate. It has good combat rules, skills, can handle the wide variety of tech levels they’ll encounter, and it’s easy to bolt on special abilities like psionics.
If you want something a little less crunchy or prefer class based characters, Stars Without Number has potential. Heck, even if you don’t use the rules the society creation tools could come in handy.

I haven’t played it, but Prime Time Adventures sounds like a good fit.
