Incorporating post-session Discord chat is one of the coolest, smartest things we have done as a community.

  1. I’ve said some mean things about Discord and its stupid face, but getting to decompress there after an intense session has really turned me around on it.

I see your use now, Discord. Sorry I said all that stuff about your face!

Seriously though, the sudden way that Gauntlet games just end when time is up has been the hardest thing for me to adjust to. Discord chats bridge that gap for me beautifully!

  3. I’ve really enjoyed lurking and listening in. There are always good suggestions and tips, like today’s ideas around giving drop-in PCs some special knowledge or supplies that makes them welcome and essential to the party.

  5. In most games at the Gauntlet we do the “real” debrief directly after the session while the recording is still on. Sometimes we do some extra debrief after recording is off if it’s about things not suitable for a broader public.

I appreciate a lot that Gauntlet sessions usually end at the estimated time. Over extending sometimes more than 20% made online gaming so much less doable for me in the past.

Still, sometimes it would have been nice to continue the discussion, putting spotlight onto certain experiences just made etc. I missed that.

That we now have the open discussion channel on Discord is therefore a big plus to me.

There is still a clear cut for the official session. The Discord invites in other games and people – making it a broader audience and a more diverse voice.

It’s like the convention bar where everybody is still in post game mood and eager to exchange while having a lemonade.

I also like that it is audio only. I definitely need a stretch after three hours of just sitting and staring at a screen.

I have done some yoga for example while listening to the post game channel on Discord.

  7. I popped in for the debrief for Rich’s 1%er game on Saturday. Learned a lot from the players, and was able to expose them to some behind the scenes stuff that went into the game. Overall a great time and experience.

  9. Christo Meid I took some notes on ideas (and things to be mindful of) if/when I do a 2nd Edition. For the most part, I was silently listening…tech issues (not being smart enough to get my mic working). When I finally got to talking I just gave up some rare trivia tidbits about creating the game. Stayed over and talked to David a bit about ideas for the future of the game. I don’t know if anyone took note of my ramblings. 🙂
