I look forward to Ramshackle Crow fighting against the legions of General Ape-oleon, conqueror of Mars!

I love the concept and the imagery. From a font standpoint, with “Comic Strip” in all caps, it makes the AP part sound like “ap” as in those things you download from the Apple Store.
COMIC STRIP AP
Comic Strip AP
COMIC STRIP A.P. is another option.
But there may be other considerations, like harder to read in the little podcast store…

Chris Shorb Yeah, that’s probably something worth thinking about; it definitely occurred to me. I guess my line of thinking is I can’t imagine who would find this show by accident, such that they didn’t know how it was supposed to read.

Jason Cordova You just never know – this may be the tool that propels RPG AP’s into the mainstream… Probably not, but who knows? It’s sort of this new type of storytelling for so many people; and 1×1 RPGs are new for most role-players even.

Jason, what if I just make it like Comic Strip AP by shrinking the caps a little. IOW, not lower case but more like small caps so the C and S are subtly larger?

Ray Otus That’s a great idea! Let’s give it a shot.

Eh. It’s “okay.” I did a quick test and I don’t like it as much. (But then maybe I overdid it.) I’ll fidget with it more later. Maybe space between the AP would do it instead. Like A P instead of AP.

Ray Otus Yeah, I don’t love it. The small caps look more stretchy than crisp.

I think it’s great the way it is, app is two p’s

Right. Here’s a slightly more subtle way of handling it. Separated A and P. Used the dots to make faux periods. But I agree with Fraser Simons that it’s probably fine the way it is.

Chris Shorb I’m imagining the outsider cultural anthropologist who reports on the series for a PRX bit.
“They call it ‘Comic Strip AP’, the ‘AP’ standing for ‘actual play’. That’s because it’s a game the hosts ‘actually’ play, called an RPG, or role-playing game. Players use mechanics to tell stories. These are verbal narratives, and aren’t written illustrated and written like a comic strip. Rather, the stories on this podcast are short and action-packed, like a pulp serial comic. To recap: The hosts actually play story games formatted like short-form comics, hence Comic Strip AP. (wheezing gasps for breath).”

Oh, and ‘AP’ doesn’t look like “APP” to me. The gray halftone dots of the background could reappear as periods after the A and P to suggest an abbreviation, but honestly, podcast logos don’t have to communicate as much as, say, book covers or vinyl albums do. They are tiny and accompanied by qualifying information. This does look very fun.

Ray Otus I like the faux periods as well to be honest, whatever you guys think!

Ray Otus I think we just keep it as it was. Chris Shorb’s point is valid, but Tim B is right that the logos come with qualifying info. I don’t want to sacrifice the clean look of the original for that extra bit of clarity.

next time I’m at Applebee’s, I’m ordering a Comic Strip Ap to kick off my awesome meal!

Socko! (I kind of wish the wizard’s hands had a “Zot!” coming out of them.)

Also, in case anyone is wondering, our initial lineup of games is Dogs in the Vineyard, Young at Heart, Sorcerer, and Monster of the Week. Possibly The Veil, The Indie Hack, and Cthulhu Dark. There will be others added to the list soon!
