Anyone got any more intel on the new kickstarter Downfall?
I’m trying to decide if microscope is just fine or it’s sufficiently different to back… Thoughts?

Hadn’t heard of it, but this sounds pretty cool.

I backed it. It sounds different enough from Microscope. I’m also a KS addict, so I was rather doomed from the start.

Aghghgh, not another project to back. I’m such a sucker.

Eadwin Tomlinson I love you man.

This (below) came in from Ben, the creator of Microscope, in his latest post regarding his current Microscope Explorer Kickstart. Apparently HE thinks it is “different enough” and “worth it.” I’m still decided too but will probably back it.
Downfall: Build A World, Then Destroy It
For the past two years I’ve been lucky enough to playtest Caroline Hobbs’ new game, Downfall, a story game where you sit down together and craft a society, rich with tradition and meaning… and then lovingly destroy it.

This is Caroline’s first major release, but take my word for it, this game is tight. She’s put the time and thought into refining the game until it does exactly what it promises.
It’s on Kickstarter right now. If you like the games I make, you will love Downfall. Check it out!

It sounds interesting, but I won’t be backing for reasons that have nothing to do with the game itself. The first is that I just backed Microscope Explorer, and I’m not sure how many “world creation” games I need in my life. The second is I have serious Kickstarter fatigue right now.

A ton of Kickstarters do seem to be hitting simultaneously, but I feel like there was a nice lull up to this point. Or maybe I just quit paying attention for a while and missed a bunch.

Daniel Lewis I haven’t backed a huge number of games in the last month, but they have all been pricey ones: Fall of Magic, Undying, Microscope Explorer, The Warren. Actually, Microscope Explorer wasn’t bad.

Ah, I didn’t back Fall of Magic and I backed Undying on a cheap tier, so I guess that’s why I’m not feeling the Kickstarter fatigue quite yet. FYI, there’s a new Bones miniatures campaign going right now if you want to really make some regrettable Kickstarter choices.

Jason Cordova that has been a shift for me too. (Fewer but more $.) I have been a bit caught up in the “beautiful hardback” dream (Warren, Undying, Fall of Magic). I’m actually kind of disappointed Microscope and Microscope Explorer aren’t offered as hardbacks. I have been a PDF collector for ages and have been intentionally keeping my shelf light, but I have reached a level of screen-time toxicity that makes me yearn to have a small shelf of true gems in hardback. Digest-sized of course. I hate those giant D&D sized books. (I’m not hard to please or anything.)
