Denizens of Austin (or anyone, really)…

I’m putting together some sessions of Urban Shadows, to be set in Austin, TX. I lived there a number of years, so I have a decent handle on things, but I wanted to get your opinion on what kinds of things you think are quintessentially “Austin.”

Here are a few things off the top of my head…

-The Alamo Drafthouse

-Barton Springs

-Cross-dressing homeless people

-the state capitol

-6th street

-terrible traffic

What other sorts of things can you think of? If you have any specific Urban Shadows ideas, I’m happy to hear those, too.

  1. UT campus. Lots of people learning how to find their way in the world.

The high tech industry bring in a lot of people from different places seeking fortune.

  3. Texas pride. “It’s like a whole other country”. “Everything is bigger/better in Texas. “

However Austin has lots of diversity in race, LGBT, cultures. Likely due to the big University.

This makes Austin stand out from the surrounding area (180 miles or more in all directions).

  5. Sixth street revelry with college kids and a street of bars.

Different revelry at Eeyore’s Birthday Party.

    Weirdness of Spamarama.

Sixth street could be a hunting ground for young prey, and Eeyore’s could be a Fey gathering.

  7. Also the bats in the Congress street bridge could be a Vampire colony.

The 50th anniversary of the UT tower shooting is in early August. The shooter could have been “controlled” to create a public sacrifice.
