Big thanks to Gauntlet UK for hosting this weekend’s Dungeon World adventure. Lugana’s Gambit was incredibly fun; probably two of my favorite DW sessions ever. And, as luck would have it, we recorded them.

Eadwin Tomlinson Isa Wills Joshua Faller Jørund Kambestad Lie and Robert Ruthven.

  1. OMG, I just realized the woman in this picture has a black feather hanging down from her hat! Perhaps another for Fillion’s collection, Isa Wills?

  3. Some lore/trivia tidbits…

-It probably goes without saying, but the city of Canalata is the same city Domenico Castafiel’s adventure on Discern Realities is taking place in. Both stories feature very heavy Venetian horror/gothic horror elements.

-The ruined cathedral was dedicated to St. Antonius, one of those demon-hunting Castafiels from ancient days who helped bring about the curse in the first place.

-The corvid masks being worn by the skeleton guards are an homage to Iotho’s guards at his party in DR episodes 12 & 13, as well as to Ramshackle Crow.

-The Black Nest was inspired by Skullport. Mhaug and Vhondryl were lifted directly from that setting.

-The purple lotus flowers in the garden have made an appearance in almost every Company adventure so far (the exception is The Vault of the Purple Mane, though that one is technically unfinished). Understanding the purple lotus is the key to understanding much of the campaign’s underlying lore (which I will not share today).

  5. I think I’m OK with it. Session 1 I was a little out of sorts and at the end of session 2 I was a little “in my cups” as they say but I had a great time and the characters all came together really well at the end.

  7. Eadwin Tomlinson What I thought was really interesting and cool is how everyone made some adjustments to how they played their character in session 2, based on what they knew from session 1 (especially vis-a-vis Flags). That transformation always takes place in a multi-session game as the players get accustomed to the other characters, but you guys did it really quickly. It was fun to watch, and by the end I was dying to get this group together again.

  9. Eadwin Tomlinson That’s great! I’m really happy we were able to work that connection into the story. Having that Prismatic Valley walnut be the Bone Cleric’s phylactery was an idea that hit me just minutes before the session.

  11. I’m okay with sharing the hangout, though I’ll probably cringe uncontrollably when I see and hear myself talk. I’d imagine it’s not too dissimilar to the feeling of being healed by Melchior the Maggot Godling.

  13. Fraser Simons I’m going to time code them (so people can skip breaks and boring parts) and put together a folder of labeled visual aids, and then post it all up. Hopefully by next Wednesday. In the meantime, I can privately send you links to the videos.
