I’m prepping for our five-session series of Undying, which starts Sunday, and I can’t decide which location/cultural period I want to start in. I have it down to the following, each of which seem interesting to me in their own way: Elizabethan London, Turn-of-the-Century Paris, 1970’s NYC.

Thoughts?

  1. I think Elizabethan London might be the most interesting, if only because that opens the door to century-spanning conflict. Plus Shakespeare. Vampire Shakespeare? Also a big fan of 1970s NYC for the multiculturalism and also hipness.

  3. In 1900, Paris had both the 2nd modern Olympics and the Worlds Fair. That sounds like an awesome time to have vampires around.

1970s NYC has obvious charms, plus being a cultural powder keg.

  5. If it was my goal to make the game unsettling and creepy I would pick 1970’s NYC.

It is close enough to our experience of living, yet in some ways slightly off in technology and society. Which allows a more intuitive understanding of why a situaiton is creepy and might be easier to research and have a mental image of.

I think small differences work better at unsettling the audience than a completely foreign culture and setting.
