We just finished playing Twilight Imperium.

We just finished playing Twilight Imperium.

We just finished playing Twilight Imperium. And I am spent. Completely and utterly spent. It’s worse than that, actually. I feel hollow. Like a husk.

Nearly 8 hours and we didn’t even finish.

Kill me.

  1. When you play Twilight Imperium, roll +CON. *On a 10+, you survive. *On a 7-9, you survive, but can no longer experience joy. *On a miss, roll Last Breath.

  3. Pete F. I guess it was fun, but only because I was spending an afternoon with friends. The game wasn’t helping much in this regard. I mean, it is mechanically sound, but it’s exhausting. Far too much work for the amount of fun you get on the other side.

    Jorge Salazar You are crazy.

    Eddy Gonzalez You are wise.

    Marcus Centurian No thanks.

  5. In the sense that TI is essentially a 2-8 player war game, it is actually very light weight.  every war-game intro chapter says you can play a “small” game during a 30 min lunch break.  It is always a lie, most take 30-40 mins to setup no matter what size of game you want, and that’s for just 2 players.

  7. That’s been the complaint against all the ‘big box’ FFG games. (Tide of Iron, Rune Wars, Starcraft and Arkham Horror). I think the secret is to let the fanatic who owns the game set up an hour earlier than play time, and then just let everyone else show up.

BTW, anyone want to play Tide of Iron or Rune Wars? I’ll set up (plaintive whimpering).

  9. Get in line, I’ve been trying to get people to play Descent 2nd Edition for years now but they soil themselves in fear because 1st Edition gave them PTSD.

  11. Thanks for calling this game out. It was 8 hours of my life I will never get back. The game has great art and, well, “scope.” But while all the mechanics work, they are needlessly fussy and involved to accomplish what the game has set out to do. I really feel like there is a good 2-3 hour game somewhere in the mess that is TI, but no one seems interested in finding that game or making the cuts to get there, so I’ll shut up about it.
