Discussion: Where do we go next with The Gauntlet?

Do we put on a mini-con? Do we have more events in game stores? Do we add a section for Play by Posts? Do we make more of a concerted effort to satisfy the more traditional gamers (PFRPG, D&D, OSR, and so forth)? T-shirts (shout-out to Alex Camacho )?

We’re doing a good job being consistent with our event calendar, and we have gradually pulled new people into the fold. Any thoughts about how we should build on what we have done?

  1. If people’d set up more gaming events on days other than Friday, that’d be pretty cool. I have work Friday nights, and I feel like I’m missing out on all the good gaming action!

  3. Shea Herlihy-Abba There actually are mid-week events, but they only occasionally open for new players. There is my Tuesday Dungeon World game. Rob Ferguson also runs Dungeon World on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I think those are open to anyone, but you might message him just to confirm. Stephen Crawford runs a monthly Apocalypse World game, but again you’ll need to reach out to him about openings. I will be running games over Hangouts from time to time. They will always be posted on the Events. And, of course, there is Story Game Sunday, which is pretty bleeding edge gaming. If you’re interested in trying out new and unusual things, that’s always an option.

  5. Alex Camacho I like that mini-con idea, too. Kerry Harrison worked on it for awhile, but the problem was finding a suitable venue. We really wanted to have an ‘all-day’ thing, which made restaurants unsuitable. But then other venues were just too expensive. We’ll probably keep working on it.

  7. Jesse Smith Not a bad idea. I really want to make the mini-con thing happen, because I think it will be a great opportunity for folks to come out and play. We’ll keep poking around.

  11. +1 for donating 10 bucks to get a mini-con off the ground. What about bars that have separate / private sections? Rudyard’s British Pub in central Houston (Montrose) has an upstairs room where they do comedy nights, live bands, all sorts of stuff. No idea what places like that charge, though.
