Discern Realities is wrapping up its Dungeon World Basics series with an episode or two of miscellaneous issues that have not been covered up to this point, and we want your help deciding what else needs to be addressed in the basics for new players! Let us know your ideas in the comments. A reminder that this is basic stuff, so we’re not going to delve into anything outside the core rules (that’s what regular DR episodes are for).

For people coming from D&D, perhaps some advice about what makes a good DW magic item, and how much loot to dole out more generally? I.e. should they find a +1 magic sword in every dungeon.

I think you’ve covered the basics well already.

echoing Tim Denee, using loot appropriately in DW in RAW has been a big problem for me. very much a D&D holdover in making the economy work.

Common situations and how they typically play out:
> Investigation/exploration scenes
> Getting ambushed/snuck up on
> Fights/action scenes
> Charged social interactions
(e.g. just demonstrating how the “describe the situation” >> GM move >> what do you do? >> player move >> resolution >> look to GM >> GM move loop works in play)

multi-class moves: what is and is not allowed (starting moves/lvl 6+ moves) / how to adapt moves that seem to require other moves?
renaming/ re skinning gear, choices and moves on the character sheet
flavor items (token of faith, musical instrument, magical focus, token of travels, ostentatious robes, galactic hair?): how much use can you get out of them or is it abusing the rules? Ie: my magical focus happens to be a ritual dagger so i can still roll damage even after my staff breaks. the token of my travels is a well used lantern….
